  • Central Universities are also considered as the premier educational institutes for higher learning in India.

Central Universities in India: NIRF Rank and Admission Process

Central Universities in India are also known as the union universities that have been established by an Act of Parliament. At present, there are 47 central universities in India, out of which 40 varsities come under the preview of UGC, Department of Higher Education and Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).

Central universities are also considered as the premier educational institutes for higher learning in India. Uttar Pradesh is the only state with six central universities whereas Andhra Pradesh and Goa still do not have a central university. The President in power is the official 'Visitor' of all the central universities in India. He/she is also bestowed upon the responsibility of appointing a Vice Chancellors of these universities with adequate assistance from the MHRD. The President can also nominate members to the Executive Council, Selection Committee, Board of Management of these universities.

Out of these 47 universities, only 10 varsities conduct the Central University Common Entrance Test (CUCET) for the admission to different courses. Rest of the universities conduct separate entrance exams and admission process for different courses.

Central universities are expected to release the admission notifications in March/ April.

Yes, KLE University in Karnataka has one seat for B.Sc. Nursing. The admission process for this seat is through the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) counseling.
