While addressing a press conference, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, informed that 15 medical colleges are ready to function in UP whereas a proposal for 14 has been sent to the central government already. Out of 15, six colleges have started functioning in the Ayodhya, Firozabad, Badun, Bahraich, Basti and Shahjahanpur regions. Hardoi district is also going to have a medical college in the coming times.
With the coming up of new medical colleges, the total number of students taking admission in the medical courses has rapidly increased. Earlier, about 1700 students could get admissions in the UP medical colleges, whereas, now the number has crossed 2,500 students.
The increase in medical colleges is likely to improvise the healthcare facilities in the coming years. People of adjoining areas will be allowed to seek treatments at these colleges, thus, these colleges are going to benefit the localities as well. It will be good practice for patients as well.

The six colleges that got active recently were part of phase 1 of the plan, in phase 2, work on the establishment and working of other colleges will be looked upon. According to a leading newspaper, the other districts to get medical colleges are - Etah, Pratapgarh, Ghazipur, Mirzapur, Deoria, Siddharthnagar, Ghazipur and Fatehpur in next two years.
