BIT Mesra has been one of the premier engineering colleges in India for a long time. The latest ranking of BIT Mesra 2023 has been released and it has done better than the past year but there is still scope for improvement as compared to 2021 in different categories of NIRF rankings. The overall ranking for the University has remained the same for the past few years. This suggests that BIT Mesra must introspect about factors that could improve their overall NIRF rankings.

BIT Mesra Academia & Batch Size

BIT Mesra is dedicated to providing outstanding learning opportunities and a wide range of academic and extracurricular facilities. The institute's academic curriculum aligns well with government policies and offers students a variety of elective courses. However, sometimes students may not get their preferred electives due to a lack of faculty or necessary resources.

BIT Mesra has a total of 1100 seats, with 50% reserved for Jharkhand state residents and 50% open to students from other states in India. In addition to engineering programs, BIT Mesra also offers MBA courses, with 120 seats available. The number of seats per course is further divided among different streams based on demand. According to various students' feedback, the academic standards at BIT Mesra are commendable. However, there have been recurring concerns among students regarding the rigorous academic demands, especially when compared to institutions like NITs and those with similar rankings. Students at BIT Mesra are required to invest substantial effort and maintain high CGPA scores to secure placement opportunities.

BIT Mesra Infrastructure 

BIT Mesra Campus provides all basic facilities to the students. Since the campus has all the required basic amenities. A glimpse of infrastructure is mentioned below:

Classrooms and Lecture Facilities: The classrooms are in excellent condition and are equipped with air conditioning. BIT Mesra boasts a well-appointed lecture hall where problem-solving sessions take place. The main building is equipped with spacious classrooms, large lecture halls, and a well-ventilated room with air conditioning.

Internet Access: The campus offers high-speed WiFi connectivity.

CAD (Computer-Aided Design): The CAD Laboratory serves as a central resource for the institute, catering to undergraduate and postgraduate students, research scholars, and faculty members. Hang-Out Areas/Cafes: While it might not offer the same flashy appeal as city malls, the shopping complex within the campus has become the preferred destination for dining options, beauty services, stationery supplies, tailoring services, or simply hanging out with friends. This comprehensive complex currently serves the requirements of over 5000 residents. Furthermore, a new and larger commercial complex, along with a cooperative bookstore, has been recently completed and is anticipated to be operational soon.

Medical Facility: The current BIT Dispensary is a fully operational Health Care Centre with a capacity of 20 beds, including two isolation wards consisting of 8 beds. It offers medical services to BIT students, faculty members, their families, as well as staff members and their families. Additionally, it extends its services to the local villagers surrounding the campus. The Dispensary operates round the clock, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including Sundays and holidays, attending to all outpatient, inpatient, and emergency cases.

However, there are areas for improvement. Some programs may have limited internship or placement opportunities, and competition for placements in top companies can be fierce. The quality of internships may vary based on the company and student performance, and employers might prioritize specific skill sets not uniformly covered in all programs.

Upon comparing BIT Mesra with other universities in Ranchi, we believe that its internship and placement record is generally exceptional. There is a discernible gender imbalance at BIT Mesra; however, the campus prides itself on a diverse student body, with individuals hailing from nearly every state in India. The enrollment of out-of-state students is nearly equal to that of local students, owing to the reservation of half of the seats for Jharkhand residents. Moreover, the presence of 65 international students from various countries greatly enriches the campus's multicultural atmosphere, further enhancing the overall diversity at BIT Mesra.

Few faculty members at BIT Mesra are notably well-qualified, approachable, and possess substantial knowledge in their respective fields. Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) is strategically positioned in Mesra, approximately 16 kilometres from Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. Ranchi, a bustling hub for commercial and trade activities in Eastern India, benefits from robust connectivity to various parts of the country. This accessibility is maintained through regular flights from major airports, well-established railway services, and an extensive road network.

BIT Mesra is situated in Mesra, Jharkhand, with the closest airport being Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi, roughly 20.7 kilometres away from the campus. For rail transportation, students can conveniently access Mesra Railway Station, located a mere 2 kilometres from the institute. Additionally, the PostMan Chowk Bus Stop is approximately 1.6 kilometres away from the campus.

Students who prefer an urban setting may not be entirely satisfied with the campus location. Concerns have been raised about the institute's distance from the city centre, which can be a drawback, especially during festivals and events. This geographical separation from the urban hub could potentially discourage students from other colleges from actively participating in activities hosted at BIT Mesra.
