Dr. Satya Pal Singh, Union Minister for State for Human Resource Development (HRD) addressed the audience during 20th convocation ceremony of IIT Guwahati. While delivering his speech he advised professors and teachers of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati to work on ancient technologies along with the modern innovations.
According to him, rather than just focusing on modern innovation, researchers and students should explore ancient technology and work on it to create a balance between ancient and modern innovations and technologies. He emphasized the importance of cultural roots and the process to strike a balance between the ancient and the modern.
Dr. Singh then talked about how merely publishing papers in journals is not the only criteria as most of these papers do not necessarily lead to any innovation or launch of an industry. Therefore, India still needs to work on its research to make something productive out of it.
He stressed on the importance of holistic approach and the need to have a more creative mindset. For him, the main aim of the college should just not be about providing its students with job opportunities, but to work towards the greater good of the society.
The institute should work towards fetching highest awards for research and to always aim high, he elaborated. He said efforts must be made to get maximum awards in the field of science, applied science and technology.
