In wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the National Institute of Design has changed its shortlisting criteria for B.Des and GDPD. Candidates who have applied for admission to these courses can check the update regarding the selection process of NID here.

NID Selection Criteria Changes

The National Institute of Design (NID) has released a notification in which it has informed about the change in the examination criteria of NID for admission to the design institute. All aspirants who are looking forward to enrolling in a programme of NID for the academic session of 2020 - 2021 must be aware of this update. The National Institutes of Design (NIDs) conduct their own entrance exam called the NID DAT (Design Aptitude Test) through which they shortlist applicants for their design courses. The process has been changed for admission to the courses of B.Des (Bachelor of Design) and GDPD (Graduate Diploma Programme in Design) at NID.

NID Admission Cell has taken this decision on account of the COVID-19 outbreak and the resulting multiple lockdowns in the nation. Owing to the persistent uncertainty in these times, NID has declared that it would abstain from calling students to its campuses this year for taking the NID DAT Mains exam. It further informed that the exam of NID DAT Mains will be conducted through the online mode this year. The applicants will be required to upload their portfolios and statements of purpose prior to the exam date of NID DAT Mains 2020.

Apart from the mode of the exam, NID Admission Cell has also altered the weightage allocated to both NID DAT Prelims and NID DAT Mains for creating the merit list and selecting candidates. As per the shortlisting criteria that were followed earlier, 30 per cent weightage was given to NID DAT Prelims and a weightage of 70 per cent was allocated for NIT DAT Mains for B.Des and GDPD admissions. However, there has been a change in weightage that is allocated to each of these exams which is given in the table below.

NID DAT Mains (online interaction)

According to the latest notification released by the NIDs, the GDPD programme offered at all the campuses will be discontinued from the academic cycle of 2020-21. The seats of GDPD will be converted to those of B.Des and hence, all the campuses of NID will offer B.Des now.

NID has released the seat allotment list for B.Des 2020 on August 4, 2020. The candidates who are mentioned in the link are required to upload their documents and pay the token fee latest by August 11, 2020.

The result of NID DAT Mains 2020 was announced for the B.Des and GDPD admissions on July 24, 2020. The exam for NID DAT Mains 2020 was scheduled from June 22, 2020, onwards.
