AIIMS Raipur, established in 2012, is one of the six AIIMS healthcare institutes being established by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY). Located in the capital city of Chhattisgarh, the institute is spread over a sprawling 103.63 acres. It operates autonomously and is designed to provide both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education in all its branches and related fields. AIIMS Raipur also aims to offer other healthcare services to patients with advanced medical facilities. With a capacity of 960 beds, the hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment and technology. The institution is also a significant contributor to research in the medical field.

Our take:

AIIMS Raipur has shown commendable progress in the NIRF rankings, moving up from 49th position in 2022 to 39th in 2023 in the medical category. This significant leap is a testament to the institute's unwavering commitment to excellence in medical education, research, and healthcare services. It's clear that AIIMS Raipur is on an upward trajectory, setting new benchmarks in the field of medicine.

AIIMS Raipur Academia & Batch Size

Offering a diverse range of courses, including undergraduate, postgraduate, super specialisation, specialised training and other paramedical courses, the institute currently accommodates a student body of 1303. Over the years, it has successfully admitted ten batches of MBBS students and nine batches of B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing students. With the steady enhancement of faculty strength, patient care and diagnostic services, the annual intake of PG (MD/MS/MDS) seats has been progressively increased. Today, the institute offers 148 seats per year across 26 specialties. In a recent development, the institute’s Academic Committee approved MD in Radiotherapy, increased the seat intake of MD in Pathology and approved sponsored seats in various specialties, thereby increasing the total to 152 seats per annum. AIIMS Raipur is clearly making strides in the field of medical education. It offers a wide range of courses and has a large student body. The institute has successfully managed multiple batches of MBBS and B.Sc. Nursing students. The high number of students applying for each course indicates that AIIMS Raipur is a sought-after institution for aspiring medical professionals.

AIIMS Raipur Infrastructure

Classrooms:  AIIMS Raipur is equipped with four lecture theatres, each with central air conditioning, providing a comfortable learning environment for students. These theatres can each accommodate about 150 and 200 people.

Library: AIIMS Raipur has a central library spread over three floors. The library features a vast collection of over 10,000 medical and nursing books and more than 900 general books. Each floor serves a distinct purpose, from housing books to providing reading spaces and a state-of-the-art e-library. The entire library is Wi-Fi enabled, enhancing the learning experience for students.

Wifi:  AIIMS Raipur offers a secure Wi-Fi network accessible to all students, faculty, and staff. The Wi-Fi is provided through both wired and wireless connections, ensuring connectivity across the entire campus and facilitating seamless online access for academic and administrative purposes. 

Hostels: As per the students of AIIMS Raipur, Chhattisgarh, the institute provides separate hostel facilities for male and female students, located within the college premises. The hostels offer spacious, well-ventilated rooms with basic amenities, at an average annual fee of INR 4228. There are no fixed timings, and parents are permitted in rooms until 7 PM. Females can enter the male hostel with the director's permission, but males are not allowed in the female hostels. First-year female students are accommodated in 3 BHK flats in the AIIMS Residential complex, about three kilometres from the college. These flats provide single rooms for three students (two rooms and the hall), while two students share a room.

The vast collections of books at the library, home-like residential facilities and various other modern facilities at AIIMS Raipur campus make it a favourable destination for medical studies. The institute ensures students are offered the best facilities at the campus as its students are the future of the country. 

AIIMS Raipur Internships & Placements

Internships

According to student testimonials, AIIMS Raipur places a significant emphasis on internships, making them a mandatory part of the academic curriculum. Students must complete a six-month internship before they can graduate. These internships offer students invaluable hands-on experience, allowing them to handle a diverse range of cases, including trauma, under the guidance of supportive and encouraging staff. The internships are conducted within the hospital and across various departments, providing students with a well-rounded understanding of the medical field.

In addition to the rich learning experience, students also receive a stipend, which ranges from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 28,000 per month, a figure that students consider quite competitive compared to other state colleges. Placements 

As per the NIRFReport 2022 of AIIMS Raipur, in the postgraduate programme, out of 24 eligible students, 21 secured placements, earning a median salary of INR 12.46 LPA. However, in the undergraduate programme, out of 82 eligible students, 23 were placed, with a median salary of INR 12 LPA. AIIMS Raipur placement data shows a significant contrast between the undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The postgraduate programmes have a high placement rate as compared to undergraduate programmes. This suggests that while AIIMS Raipur has been successful in providing postgraduate students with promising career opportunities, there is scope for enhancing the placement prospects for undergraduate students.

In undergraduate programmes, out of 525 students, 26 are from the home state while a significant 499 are from outside states.
