Our Take:

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Coimbatore has grabbed several ranks across different fields of education. The rankings of all the departments of the university have improved in 2023 as compared to previous years. The NAAC A++ grade has also improved the brand image of Amrita University. However, there is still scope for the varsity to do better in overall ranking performance. 

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Academia & Batch Size

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham offers various diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in offline and online modes. The number of students in the university is 21,306 and the number of faculty members is 1,740 - faculty to student ratio being 12:1. As per the statistics, the number of female students is very low in the university.

Courses Offered

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham courses are available in arts, humanities and social sciences, media, mass communication and journalism, computer application and IT, sciences and management and business administration streams. The diploma level course at the university includes a PG Diploma in Journalism which is a 1 year programme.

Fees

The fee structure at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is neither too low nor too high. However, the B.Tech course fee is higher and might make a hole in your pocket.

Our Take:

A wide variety of courses are offered to the students of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. The students are happy with the course curriculum which is updated every 4 years according to the industry standard. Despite being a private university, the course fee of Amrita Vishwa is reasonable, however, the B.Tech course fee is on the higher side. Students who find it challenging to pay the high fee might want to look for college alternatives for B.Tech admission with lower course fees.

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Infrastructure

The campus of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is spread across 400 acres of land with great infrastructure including academic buildings, an administration wing, a central library, hostels, guest houses, staff quarters, a shopping complex, a swimming pool and playgrounds. The campus has a built-up area of over 28 lakh sq. feet linked by 7 km of black-topped roads. A swimming pool meeting Olympic standards is utilised by students, staff and others on the campus. Two powerhouses are installed with a total generating capacity of 1660KVA to meet the shortage in power supply. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham also provides uninterrupted power and water supply around the clock.

Hostel

Separate hostel facilities are provided for girls and boys enrolled at Amrita University. Students staying in the hostel are encouraged to imbibe a holistic lifestyle with activities like yoga, sports and extra-curricular activities. There are eight hostels on the campus which accommodate more than 3,500 students. Postgraduate students and final-year undergraduate students are allotted single rooms. All hostels are equipped with solar water heaters for hot water supply. 

Pure vegetarian food is prepared under hygienic conditions and is served to the students in dining halls and the canteens from a central Kitchen. A night cafeteria is attached to all hostels. All students are expected to live in the hostel during their course, only local students who live with their parents within a radius of 30 km from the campus will be allowed to come from their homes. However, students are not permitted to live in rented houses, or lodges, either alone or in groups. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham attaches great importance to the nature of lifestyle on the campus and consumption of tobacco or any other intoxicants is strictly prohibited.

Fee Structure of the Hostel

Library

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Central Library has a carpet area of 81,000 sq feet. The library is well-equipped and provides valuable knowledge towards excellence in learning and research. It has been automated by the Libsys software and has an open-access system. A wide variety of library materials that cater to various learning resources includes 58103 books, 377 Periodicals, 3000+ online e-resources like e-journals, e-books, conference proceedings, e-databases and standards, 2650 Project reports, 7086 back-volumes, 4781 CD/ DVDs resources and 14 Daily News Papers. The digital library of the university is centrally air-conditioned and has a capacity of 170 students but as of now, 100 users can access it simultaneously. Students can access the internet facility in the digital section. 

Computer Facility

The ICTS (Information and Communication Technology Services) Department of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham works on identifying, providing, and maintaining reliable computing facilities, networks, and infrastructure for education, research, instructional, and institute-approved business services. All staff rooms are equipped with adequate computers to help faculty carry out their day-to-day academic requirements and also to aid in their research activities. The computer facilities are available to the staff and students from 7:00 AM to 10:30 PM on all days excluding national holidays. The laboratories extend all facilities required by students to fulfil their requirements for academic purposes.

Sports Facility

The Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham campus has facilities for outdoor and indoor games like Hockey, Shuttle badminton, Ball Badminton, Cricket, Football, Table Tennis, Weight lifting, Power Lifting, Basketball, Kabaddi, Tennis, Handball, Throw-ball, and Volleyball. One state-of-the-art synthetic tennis court and a cement tennis court are also available. 

The Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham swimming pool is of Olympic standard 50m X 25m in size with a capacity of 2.4 million litres along with a toddler pool to accommodate babies and for the professionals to warm up. There is advanced machinery that can purify 2.4 million litres of water within six hours. It is one of the few international standard swimming pools where the State, National and International Swimming Competitions can be conducted.

There is a synthetic tennis court inside the campus where no maintenance is required. It will be suitable for both extreme conditions.

Guest House

The guest house facility of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham includes 20 AC rooms, 4 AC suites, 20 non-AC rooms, a conference hall and a dining hall. The guest house is used for important events such as board meetings, conferences, seminars, press meetings etc. It provides a comfortable stay for parents, visiting professors, company executives, administrators and so on.

Bank

The Dhanlaxmi Bank operates a branch within the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham campus with an ATM facility for the benefit of the staff and students.

Medical Facility

‘Amrita Dispensary’ works inside the campus round the clock providing medical service to the students, staff and villagers. Three doctors and eight nursing staff are on duty and the dispensary has ten beds for the in-house patients. Basic medical care, pharmacy with adequate medicines, facilities like ECG Machine, Nebulisar, Oxygen cylinders, Defibrillator, ECG monitor & Pulse OXYmeter and first aid are provided in the health care unit. Emergency cases that need immediate hospitalisation are referred to nearby well-known hospitals. Two ambulances are readily available in the clinic for emergencies.

Amenities Complex

A general store caters to stationery and other requirements like domestic goods, toiletry, provisions, books etc. The store also stocks our ashram publication, audio/ video cassettes, herbal/ ayurvedic products and so on. The amenities complex houses a tailoring shop, a xerox shop, a men’s hairdressing centre and an STD booth for Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham students and faculty members.

Canteen

Three well-functioning canteens inside the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham campus are available to students from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM on all days.

Our Take:

Students have complained that Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham campus life is boring and apart from the academic events and conferences, the university does not engage students in any other activities and focuses only on education. There is a strict dress code; students are sometimes allowed to wear casual clothes but are not permitted to wear jeans, short tops, sleeveless dresses, etc. The hostel fee is on the higher side and students who find the hostel fee to be more than their budget do not have the option of staying in nearby PGs. This is a big challenge faced by most of the students enrolled in the university.

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Internships & Placements

100% placement and internship opportunities are provided to students of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. The placement cell of the university trains the students in soft skills development, resume building, and many other activities to increase their employability. The students receive generous support from the placement cell for internship and placement opportunities.

The highest package offered to the students of the engineering department in 2023 was INR 56.95 LPA, while the average salary package offered was INR 9.2 LPA. For the MBA branch, the highest salary offered was INR 24.84 LPA, and the average salary package was INR 8.25 LPA.

Internship

The students of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham can start their internship at the end of the 4th semester for UG and the 3rd semester onward for PG. The internship duration ranges from 4 weeks (1 month) up to 24 weeks (6 months) for UG and up to 48 weeks (about a year) for PG. The highest internship stipend offered in 2023 was INR 1,25,000 per month for the engineering department.

Placement

The head placement cell of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham handles the placement of students in engineering, arts, science, and allied courses. Improving the quality of placements in terms of job opportunities, companies of relevance that visit the campus, and the highest and average salaries are all taken care of by this cell.

Good placements and internship opportunities are offered to the students of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham in the third year itself. Some of the top companies recruit students from this university and offer lucrative salary packages. However, according to the students, 95% of recruitment is done from the CSE department and students pursuing other specialisations are provided with relatively fewer job choices. While they can apply for jobs independently and land decent roles, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham needs to ensure more companies are onboarded for hiring graduates across all specialisations and courses in the campus placement drive.

The university has a number of international partners which definitely increases its popularity among students who wish to pursue student exchange programmes and are keen to get global experience. However, the male-female ratio at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeeth is a matter of grave concern. The university needs to take serious measures to increase the intake of female students across all courses which may include introducing new courses, establishing accommodation for female students etc.

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Faculty/ College Administration & Management

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham was started in an obscure village named Ettimadai, at the foothills of Bouluvanpatty ranges of the Western Ghats in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu. In the beginning, there were only 12,000 students with 1,500 faculty members. As Amrita’s first campus, Coimbatore is home to the administrative headquarters of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. The university now has a student population of over 24,000 with 1,700+ strong faculty. The faculty at Amrita University is knowledgeable and students can approach the teachers for constant help.

Our Take:

Students have given positive feedback of the faculty members of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. Almost all the teachers are PhD holders and they have relevant experience in their respective fields. Some of the students have said that the semester exams of a few subjects can be tough but the teachers are readily available for assistance in proper preparation so that they can score well.

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore is located at Amritanagar, Ettimadai in Tamil Nadu. The nearest railway station is Ettimadai Railway Station which is just 650 meters away from the campus. The nearest airport is Coimbatore International Airport- CJB which is around 36.8 km away from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. Ettimada Bus Stop is approximately 5.3 km away from the campus. Students can take a cab or a bus to reach Amrita University.

Our Take:

The university campus is beautiful and has all the facilities. The train station, bus stop and airport are not too far from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham campus. The university also has its own bus services but using this facility can be a problem for students who do not live in hostels.

To achieve your academic goal, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham will be the best university for you. However, if you are someone who wants to participate in extracurricular activities and cultural events apart from studying, then you might need to think twice before applying to this university. 

The university infrastructure is very good with diverse sports facilities, student clubs, etc. It is a ragging-free campus with great placement opportunities. The course fee is reasonable making it easier for many students to take admission to this private university.
