But how good is NMU? NMU holds an impressive 'A' grade from NAAC (think of it as a gold star for universities!), with a score of 3.11 out of 4 – not too shabby, right? And if that wasn't enough, NMU even boasts a prestigious '4-star status' from NAAC, a testament to its commitment to quality education.

NMU is a sprawling campus of 660 acres, teeming with life! Imagine 2 lakh trees whispering wisdom in the breeze, and facilities galore – libraries, labs, classrooms, you name it. NMU’s NIRF Ranking: Not Available!

As per the data available on the NMU’s website, the NIRF ranking is not provided. However, the university has been ranked by various other institutions. The ranking received by NMU through various entities is:

• According to the surveys conducted by Unirank in 2021, NMU has achieved 161st rank among Indian Universities whereas 5917th rank among the universities of the world.
• By Edurank, NMU has been placed at 15th position among the universities of Maharashtra and at 1715th position among the universities of Asia in 2021.
• It has been ranked 66 in the Overall category by QS World Ranking

NMU's absence from the recent NIRF rankings could be attributed to various factors. One possible reason is that, in comparison to larger universities, NMU may not have a strong research output, which would impact its score in the "Publications" category. Additionally, the NIRF takes into account infrastructure parameters such as library resources, lab facilities, and classrooms. NMU Academia & Batch Size

MCBU has 16 faculties offering more than 50 undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in various streams such as Sciences, Arts, and Commerce. The university also offers various programs in different fields such as Engineering, Education, Life Sciences, Medicine, Arts and Languages, Social Science, Law, Mathematics, Commerce, Management, and Home Science.

As per the student reviews made on Quora, Classes at  MNU typically start at 9 A.M. The students are required to be on time for class and to prepare for all lectures in advance so that the courses may be more participatory. Each class lasts for 60 minutes, including a 30-minute tea break. Along with this, the students get some free time in the evenings to engage in enjoyable activities such as athletics, roaming about campus, and exploring the city.

• Faculty of Humanities: It is dedicated to students willing to pave the academic path to arts and humanities. This faculty is divided into 10 core departments including subjects such as political science, public administration, ancient Indian culture, sociology, and psychology among others.
• Faculty of Commerce and Management: This department has been divided two segments: into business management and commerce courses.
• Faculty of Science & Technology: It comprises 10+ departments including courses on geology, biochemistry, botany, biology, physics, computer science, pharmaceutical science, and other science subjects.
• Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies: It is segregated into 3 other departments which include library and information science, fine arts, physical education, mass communication, and education.

Pedagogy

Faculty and staff are mostly highly qualified, which is good for every student in NMU. Also, the faculty helps students with every difficulty and also motivates them to do more. As per the student’s review, the faculty members are cooperative and encourage the weaker students to feel included.

Batch Size

The number of students in each batch at NMU can differ based on the program and college. Here's a basic overview:

• For Undergraduate Programs: Classes usually consist of 50 to 150 students.
• For Postgraduate Programs: Batch sizes tend to be smaller, with around 20 to 50 students per class.
• In Professional Programs: Batch sizes are often even smaller, ensuring students receive personalized attention and mentorship.

Our Take:

NMU shows a mix of features regarding academics and batch sizes. It has experienced faculty, diverse programs, and flexibility through CBCS. However, concerns arise about outdated methods, limited research opportunities, and infrastructure limitations. Batch sizes differ, presenting both potential advantages and challenges based on the program and personal preferences. In summary, NMU seems promising for a good academic experience, but students should carefully research specific programs, faculty expertise, and available resources before making a decision.

NMU's Infrastructure

NMU has a welcoming and well-facilitated infrastructure with greenery surrounding the campus encouraging students to drench their aesthetic self with the biodiversity around. The university provides top-notch facilities from labs, a library, and hostels to a sports complex that encourages students to learn in an equipped and comfy environment.

Classroom

Special facilities are provided in the university classes. Projector screens have been arranged in the classrooms for the students so that they can concentrate more on their studies. There are smartboards also available in the NMU.

Auditorium/Seminar Hall

There is a large and wide auditorium where numerous activities are held in NMU. There are many laboratories accessible to students from other departments.

Library

The library at NMU is an attractive space in the varsity for book lovers. It houses a wide array of journals, research papers, printed books, and dissertations for students hailing from different streams. In fact, there are department-based libraries helping students to choose resources conveniently as per their field of study.

Labs

Students pursuing computer science degrees or other IT degrees can get access to the labs. Well, the internet connection is swift but issues surround sanitation in the labs.

Internet

The entire campus of NMU is Wi-Fi enabled with limited access. The speed of the internet is quite good according to students. Students can utilize the internet in the classroom as well.

Commute

There are various means of transport such as rickshaws, e-rickshaws, autos, and sharing autos available for students from railway stations. 

Hostel

The hostel rooms in NMU are hygienic. The hostel rooms are available to all the students in the university. The rooms are well-furnished and are equipped with the necessary facilities to make the students stay comfortable. As per the data, the hostel facility is available for non-localized male/female students.

Activities

As per the student’s review, the college offers a safe and sound atmosphere for both boys and girls to study, but it lacks extracurricular activities. Although NMU has good sports fields for many outdoor and indoor sports like Cricket Grounds, Football, Running/Athletic track, Basketball Court, Volleyball Court, Badminton Courts (Indoor/Outdoor), and Table Tennis Court, the facilities are not provided with modern-day technology and equipment.

Cafe/Hang out

The North Maharashtra University has a canteen offering Indian and other cuisines. The food is served hot and hygienic. The famous food served in the cafeteria is ‘kandha poha’, as per the leading college magazine.

NMU's infrastructure may not be as extensive as some well-established universities in Maharashtra, but it stands out due to its commitment to ongoing development and green spaces. NMU's Internship & Placement

The University Central Training and Placement Cell is responsible for providing the placement opportunity to UG, PG, and Post Graduate students. The placement cell is responsible for providing lucrative positions in the companies. The placement is done in the fields of IT, Electronics and Telecommunications, Heavy Industries, FMCG, Banking, Consulting, etc.

According to the annual report 2023, 56+ companies have arrived in placement drive in NMU. During the placement drive, 149 students were selected. The highest and average package offered to the student was INR 22 LPA during the NMU placement drive 2023. NMU’s Faculty/College Administration & Management

Despite the existence of support services, student feedback suggests that formal channels for active participation in decision-making processes could be strengthened.

Our Take:

NMU stands out from larger, centralized universities in Maharashtra due to its decentralized approach. This means it can respond quickly to local needs and foster closer interaction between students and administration in individual colleges. However, it also raises concerns about consistency across affiliated institutions. NMU's administration and management show positive steps towards efficiency and supporting students. The decentralized approach, emphasis on transparency, and recent recognition are positive aspects. However, there are communication gaps, bureaucratic hurdles, limited student involvement, and inconsistencies across colleges that need improvement.

NMU's Location

North Maharashtra University is located in a special place, just 10 kilometres from Jalgaon city in Maharashtra. Jalgaon is a busy city with good infrastructure and many facilities. The university sits on a large 660-acre campus surrounded by nature, providing a calm and open space for both learning and relaxation.

Our Take:

Pros:

• Perfect for students who value a peaceful and beautiful environment that supports concentrated studying and personal development. 
• Being a bit away from the city centre helps reduce distractions and encourages a more community-focused atmosphere within NMU. 
• The closeness to the Khandesh region provides chances to discover local traditions, historical sites, and unique customs. 
• When compared to big cities, living expenses in Jalgaon and nearby areas could potentially be more affordable.

Cons: 

• Being a bit away from the city centre might mean you won't have quick access to public transportation, various entertainment options, and a wide range of job opportunities.
• If you're used to the busy life of the city, getting used to the quieter campus atmosphere and a potentially smaller social circle might take some adjustment.
• Some facilities and services that are easily found in big cities might not be as readily available near NMU.

NMU’s Expectation vs. Reality Verdict!

The variety of programs is good, but according to student reviews, the quality can vary between different departments. While the flexibility of the CBCS is praised, there are concerns about outdated teaching methods in certain areas.
