Haldia Institute of Technology began its journey in 1996 as part of ICARE-approved institutions. The institute is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). Haldia Institute of Technology is affiliated with Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, Midnapore, West Bengal (formerly known as WBUT) and approved by AICTE. The university has been accredited with Grade A by the NAAC. 

Haldia Institute of Technology is the first private and accredited academic institution catering to technical education. The institute is situated in Haldia, West Bengal which is an industrial hub in Eastern India. Since its inception, Haldia Institute of Technology has been dedicated to the objectives of creating highly trained professional candidates in various disciplines of Engineering, Technology and Social Science. The institute is also dedicated to the contribution of higher scientific research in technology as well as in applied science and social science.

The college campus has all the amenities and a circulation area of 17,211 square meters. Courses of undergraduate and postgraduate levels are offered by Haldia Institute of Technology in different branches of study such as engineering, architecture, management and business administration, computer application, and IT. The institute has dropped its rank in the NIRF 2022 list. NIRF has only released the ranking list in 2023 until the rank band of 150 - 200, and Haldia Institute did not make it to any list. This is because their ranking could not improve in the last year as well. Haldia Institute of Technology has a long way to go to make a remarkable place in the field of education. There is a chance for the institute to do well in the coming years provided it takes necessary steps like updating the curriculum, improving its infrastructure etc. The college is majorly famous for its Engineering department, however, not much is known about the rankings for other departments. 

Haldia Institute of Technology Academia & Batch Size

Haldia Institute of Technology imparts quality-based education to create competent professionals and great entrepreneurs to work as individuals or in groups and help students gather practical knowledge and familiarize themselves with the functioning of the corporate world. Our Take:

Different UG and PG courses are offered at the Haldia Institute of Technology and the course fee is reasonable as compared to other private universities. The batch size of UG and PG courses is decent. The college certainly fairs well in these aspects and shows consistent improvement.

Haldia Institute of Technology Infrastructure

Haldia Institute of Technology provides separate hostel facilities for boys and girls. There are 11 boys’ hostels and 3 girls’ hostels for UG and PG students. Apart from hostels, students also get the facilities for laundry, sports, and Wi-Fi at Haldia Institute of Technology. The institute has a library that is provided with a rich collection of books, a central computing facility, and medical facilities for emergencies. There is a restaurant, an open-air cafeteria, a department store, a pharmacy, a bank & ATM kiosk, a laundry, a barbershop, a post office, a bookstore, and a reprographic section. A gym facility is also provided to the students at the campus. Haldia Institute is an enclave campus of 50 acres of land with an Administrative Block of 3,332 square meters, 9 Academic Blocks of an area of around 20,350 square meters, a residential area of around 8,289 square meters and a hostel area of 40,655 square meters. The campus is equipped with its own electrical sub-station that has a capacity of 850 KVA. The emergency power supply is available through the institute’s own DG power supply of 425 KVA. Classrooms are at par with modern standards and provided with overhead as well as multimedia projection facilities, video conferencing and other infrastructure of modern, upgraded teaching-learning methods.

There are separate hostels for boys and girls enrolled at Haldia Institute of Technology. Students staying at the hostels are provided with the necessary basic amenities.

The institute’s library has around 50,000 books and it remains open from 10 AM to 8 PM which helps the students to study for long hours at the library.

Our Take:

Haldia Institute of Technology has all the basic facilities that are needed inside the campus. The students have said that the classrooms are well-arranged with full AC, and the labs are also well-equipped. Some liked the hostel facilities and the food provided to the students while there were a few feedbacks on Quora that students did not like the food quality, so the institute should ensure the gastronomical needs of all students are being met. The hostel fee is affordable as compared to other engineering colleges which makes it easier on the pocket of the students' families. Students are also encouraged to participate in extra curricular activities.

The placement percentage of Haldia Institute of Technology has increased by 10.71% and the average salary has also increased by 0.94%. The training and placement cell organizes several seminars led by industry experts. Students gain from new up-and-coming concepts in the industry as a result of this interactive workshop. By scheduling industry visits, the training and placement cell ensures that students have direct industry exposure. However, there was a dip in the PG placements for 2021-22 with only 10 out of 19 eligible students getting placed. The median salary was also decreased.

Our Take:

The number of female students at Haldia Institute of Technology is very low compared to the male students. The institute should focus on attracting more female students and for that, it may have to introduce new courses. However, the total number of students from outside the state of West Bengal admitted to the institute is rather impressive. Haldia Institute has also signed MoUs with a lot of national and international institutions which has the potential to increase its popularity.

Haldia Institute of Technology has around 300 faculty members. The teachers are qualified with M.Tech and PhD degrees. The teaching faculty is doing an amazing job by constantly helping the students and their teaching process is praised by almost all students. Haldia Institute of Technology is doing great work by hiring some top teaching faculty. The course curriculum is designed in such a way that it doesn't cause a burden on students. Students have mentioned that they can easily focus on extracurricular activities and internships while completing their degree.

Haldia Institute of Technology is located at ICARE Complex, Hatiberia Haldia, District Purba Medinipore, West Bengal. Haldia Town Ship Bus Stop is the nearest with a distance of 5 km. Haldia Railway Station is around 2 km away from the college and Kolkata Airport is at a distance of 73.6 km. 

Our Take:

Students taking flights to reach the college can find the journey a little challenging since the Kolkata airport is quite far from the Haldia Institute of Technology campus. The summers are hot in Haldia but the campus is beautiful and well-equipped.

Considering the facts, reviews, and data submitted by the university for the NIRF ranking, we can say that Haldia Institute of Technology is a good university for the Engineering department in West Bengal. The university faculties and teachers are the backbone of the university along with the Training and Placement Cell. The course fee is reasonable, however, students who want to other subjects apart from Engineering need to think twice before taking admission.
