Established in 2016, IIMT University, well-known in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, operates under the IIMT Group of Colleges in Greater Noida. Covering 100 acres, it claims 20,000+ students, but 2022 NIRF data shows only 3,500 admissions. IIMT University offers a wide variety of courses in major disciplines such as Engineering, Management, Science, Pharmacy, Journalism, Hotel Management, Law, Humanities and Nursing. BTech, MBA, LLB, and BPharm are some of the popular degrees. The student-to-faculty ratio is 40:1, considered average in most tier 2 and 3 colleges in India. Despite breaking records for honouring parents, reciting Bhagavad Gita, and Gau-Seva, the university faces controversies, notably a VC with a fake PhD and student brawls, including a fatality, as reported by ABP News and Dainik Bhaskar. Safety concerns, along with poor placements, exposure, and faculty expertise, are voiced by students. Let's explore further.

Our Take:

IIMT University was acknowledged for innovation in 2021 and in 2023 by the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) which has been renamed as NIRF Innovation Ranking. This shows the university’s effort towards innovation. However, only one ranking agency has ranked IIMT University in 2023. Where are the others? 

IIMT University has been ranked as an emerging institution by Times and IIRF Ranking Surveys portraying its efforts to do better. Its state-wise ranking among the top B-Schools by GHRDC can be looked at as a substantial regional acknowledgement. However, other prominent national and international rankings in reliable sources like NIRF, QS World University Ranking, THE Ranking, Outlook and India Today are missing. Also, the university has not been ranked in other major categories such as Overall, Engineering, Science, Research, etc. 

IIMT University Academia & Batch Size

IIMT University Meerut claims to have 16 schools of study offering 140+ courses across 40+ disciplines. It has adopted the CBCS pattern of education and claims to organise industrial visits, corporate training, major/minor projects, field training, case studies, etc. The fee structure of IIMT University courses ranges from Rs 20,000 to Rs. 1,50,000 per annum. 

IIMT University Batch Size: Approved vs Actual Intake 

Our Take:

To get a clear view of students' and alumni's experiences at IIMT University, it's crucial to explore diverse perspectives from reliable sources. Reviews vary, with some praising the practical curriculum, experienced faculty, and supportive environment. However, others express concerns about outdated content, a theoretical focus, and inconsistent faculty quality. The batch size receives mixed feedback, depending on individual preferences. Interested candidates can seek firsthand experiences on online forums, social media groups, or alumni networks.

The gap of 400 students between the approved and actual intake is noticeable but not substantial. Students affirm the relevance of the curriculum, highlighting its balanced integration of theory and practical education. 

IIMT University Infrastructure

• Classroom: The classrooms at IIMT University have basic amenities such as benches, desks and blackboard. The classrooms are well-ventilated and have Wi-Fi facilities as per the students. There are separate smart classrooms in the campus. However, students have reported a lack of use of smart classes by the faculty. 
• Auditorium/ Seminar Halls/ Labs: IIMT claims to have an auditorium, seminar halls and 250 laboratories for different departments. As per the IIC 2022 report submitted by the university, the auditorium has a seating capacity of 400 students. Also, 2 other auditoriums with seating capacity of 120 and 60 are available. The campus has various labs, a conference room and the centre for innovation, incubation and entrepreneurship. 

• Library: The university has a well-stocked library with reading rooms for students.  
• Internet: IIMT University campus is wifi-enabled and most of the students seem satisfied with the facility. However, a few showed dissatisfaction with the average internet speed. 
• Hostel: The university has hostel facilities for male and female students. The university claims to have 1350 rooms that can accommodate 2500 students in twin-sharing rooms. As per the student's reviews, facilities at the hostel include free wifi, laundry, hot and cold water supply, and separate washroom facilities in every room. However, the food quality is average and pure vegetarian as reported by the hostellers. 
• Activities: Based on student reviews, no student-led social clubs were formed in the university. However, sports and gym clubs do exist. On the Facebook page of the university, minimal posts related to extracurricular activities were found during the assessment. 

• Cafe/ Hang-out Places: The university claims to have a multi-cuisine cafeteria. Some of the hangout places near the university are Titan Hangout Hub, Hangout Mitro, La Professor Cafe, Bourbon, The Firangi House, Cafe Guftagu, Shopprix Mall, etc. 

Our Take:

Many reviews highlight a spacious, well-kept campus with modern buildings and facilities. Well-lit, air-conditioned classrooms with comfortable seating and adequate equipment are commonly mentioned. Labs are well-equipped with modern technology for practical learning. Amenities like libraries, cafeterias, auditoriums, sports facilities, and recreational areas receive positive feedback. However, occasional maintenance issues in hostels, labs, or other facilities are mentioned. Some report unreliable or limited Wi-Fi connectivity in specific areas. The distance from public transportation might inconvenience some students. Hostel quality receives mixed reviews, with concerns about space, amenities, and food quality. Overall, IIMT University is seen as a modern and well-equipped campus with areas for improvement.

IIMT University Internships and Placements

IIMT University claims to have a placement cell that ties up with leading organisations to offer internships and placement opportunities to students.

As per student reviews, companies like Planet Spark, Jaro, Tech Mahindra, and Okays recruit interns from the campus. A few reported that the majority of the marketing companies visit the campus. Students have received a stipend of up to Rs 10K from companies such as Shopperty. 

Students find practical experience and professional networking valuable. The career centre at IIMT University is noted for aiding in resume building, interview preparation, and internship searches. However, concerns are raised about securing internships aligned with specific career goals, with some placements being generic or low-paying. Competition for coveted internships can be tough, leaving some students without suitable opportunities. There are occasional mentions of insufficient guidance from the university regarding internship search strategies and career exploration.

IIMT University Placements 

Going through the official website of IIMTU one can see the placement statistics such as highest package, total placement and offers. However, no year is attached to the available statistics which creates confusion. As per a student review, the highest package was around 3.5 LPA in 2022. As per another student, it was Rs 12 LPA in 2021. They reported around 60%-80% of students got placed during IIMTU placements.

Reviews note visits from established companies like Infosys, TCS, and Wipro for campus placements. Placement rates vary in sources, with some indicating around 50%, while others report lower figures. Career services include workshops on resume writing, communication skills, and interview techniques. Concerns arise due to a significant gap between the highest and average salary packages, suggesting limited opportunities for high-paying jobs. Placements appear concentrated in sectors like IT and management, potentially limiting options for graduates from other disciplines. Securing desired jobs with competitive salaries can be challenging, leading to dissatisfaction among some graduates with placement outcomes.

Our Take:

On one hand, no official internship data is available, on the other hand, placement data is a murky mess. There is a lot of unclear information, the median salary for 2021 placements is lower than INR 5,000 per month whereas the highest salary is INR 12 LPA as per student reviews. Also, the highest salary declines to Rs 3.5 LPA in 2022 placements whereas the university has published INR 33 LPA on the website without referring to any specific year. Students will have to keep scratching their heads to figure out the concrete figures!

As per NIRF 2022 report less than 20% of students were placed in 2021. A few students have reported that the university provides only call centre jobs. Moreover, no year-on-year placement statistics mentioning the number of students placed and offers received per company are available anywhere.

Our Take:

• The male-to-female ratio is 2251:844, which shows that the number of female enrollments is less than half of males. 
• The total number of students within the states is 2,771 and only 415 students belong to other states. Hence, the popularity of the university outside the state is meagre. 
• Only 23 foreign students have enrolled in the university, which of course is a smaller number. 

Reports indicating a male majority in all programs raise concerns about gender inclusivity and equal opportunities. While official data is needed for a definitive conclusion, these reports deserve attention. If most students are from the same state, it suggests limited representation from diverse parts of India, potentially restricting exposure to different cultures. While happiness is subjective, feeling part of a welcoming community is significant. Lack of diversity in certain aspects might impact the overall experience for some students. Despite praise for infrastructure and curriculum, reported concerns about limited diversity need attention. Focusing on gender balance, attracting students from diverse backgrounds, and providing transparent data on demographics would demonstrate a stronger commitment to inclusivity, creating a more enriching learning environment for all students.

IIMT University Faculty 

IIMT University listed 400 faculty members in the NIRF 2022 report. The majority of them are regular and still teaching in the university. Talking about the education qualification of the faculty, more undergraduate and postgraduate teachers are working than PhD holders as per the report. The student-faculty ratio as per student reviews is 40:1 which can be considered average. Moreover, the examination difficulty level has been moderate as reported by the students. 

Our Take:

Some reviews highlight the dedicated and experienced faculty at IIMT University, known for strong industry knowledge and practical teaching methods. Professors are praised for guidance, mentorship, and encouraging student engagement, offering a range of perspectives from diverse disciplines. However, occasional reports note varying faculty quality, with some considered less engaging or knowledgeable. Concerns include less emphasis on research opportunities and academic rigour compared to other universities. Communication gaps between faculty and students are mentioned, impacting information flow and support.

IIMT University Location

IIMT University Noida has two campuses:

• Greater Noida Campus: Nestled in Knowledge Park II, Greater Noida, this spacious campus provides a peaceful setting away from the city's hustle and bustle. Easily reachable by road and metro (Knowledge Park II Station), it's close to various recreational and commercial facilities.
• Sector 62 Campus: Positioned in the heart of Noida's business district, this campus offers convenient access to corporate offices, shopping malls, and other amenities. However, it may experience more traffic and congestion compared to the Greater Noida campus. 

The university is approximately 2.5 hours away from Delhi, well-connected by roadways and railways. One can also fly to Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi and reach IIMTU via rail or road. Residents of Delhi can travel regularly via metro till Vaishali in Noida and then take a cab or auto rickshaw or directly take a bus from Anand Vihar ISBT to Meerut.

Pros: 

• Both campuses are easily reached by public transportation, situated near residential areas, markets, shopping centres, and entertainment options.
• The Sector 62 campus, located in the business district, offers exposure to potential workplaces and internship opportunities.
• The Greater Noida campus provides a tranquil and spacious atmosphere, fostering focused learning and relaxation.

Cons: 

• Both campuses are located on the outskirts of Delhi, potentially increasing travel time for students commuting from the city centre.
• While metro access is convenient, certain areas around the campuses may necessitate additional modes of transportation.
• The Sector 62 campus, situated in a bustling business district, may face traffic jams, especially during peak hours.

IIMT University: Expectation vs Reality CLD Verdict!
