Established in 2015, Maharaja Chhatrasal Bundelkhand University, also known as MCBU, is a prestigious state-owned institution located in Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh. It is recognized and accredited by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and serves as the affiliating body for colleges in the Chhatarpur district as well as various other districts such as Niwari, Damoh, Sagar, Panna, and Tikamgarh. Approximately 149+ colleges across six districts in the state are affiliated with MCBU. The university bears accreditation from various institutes such as AICTE, AIU, AISHE, and MPCST.

Spread over 40 acres, MCBU's campus in Chhatarpur is well-equipped with modern facilities essential for students' learning and stay. These include libraries, auditoriums, laboratories, computer labs, sports areas, cafeterias, and separate hostels for male and female students, ensuring a conducive environment for education.

MCBU, a government college has garnered a mixed review from the students in terms of faculty, administration, and placement. The college campus is huge and the idea of a ‘sustainable environment’ has been taken care of by planting numerous trees around the campus. At a glance, the infrastructure proves to be satisfying. However, the student's review in Quora differs regarding placement opportunity which needs to be examined closely.

MCBU Academia & Batch Size

Maharaja Chhatrasal Bundelkhand Vishwavidyalaya offers a diverse array of academic opportunities, encompassing over 100 undergraduate and postgraduate courses, as well as vocational studies and distance learning programs. Admission to undergraduate courses is based on merit, while postgraduate programs require entrance examinations. The duration of undergraduate programs spans three years, postgraduate programs last for two years, and the B.Ed. program extends over one year. The university facilitates both offline and online modes for submitting application forms.

MCBU has 15 faculties offering more than 100 undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in various streams such as Science, Arts, and Commerce. The university also offers programs in Engineering, Education, Life Science, Medicine, Arts and Languages, Social Science, Law, Mathematics, Commerce, Management, and Home Science.

Pedagogy

As per the student’s review, the faculty is highly knowledgeable and qualified. Also, they always try to help and are ready to assist students in every possible way. The college faculty members are cooperative, and they have adequate subject knowledge. They give fair internal and external marks to students during assignments and exams, but they are strict about attendance rules. The faculty members give more importance to presentations, and group activities, and help with year-long projects included in the course curriculum. The college also provides counseling sessions and interactions to needy students.

Our Take:

As per students’ views, it can be observed that the college faculty and administration are working effectively to maintain regularity in session and curriculum. As far as the course is concerned, the college offers various options for students to choose from according to their area of interest. The eligibility criteria are also basic, increasing the chance for many students to access education. As per students’ reviews on Quora, it can be noted that while some students may find campus life enjoyable, the other section seems to be overshadowed by the university's systemic issues like administration.

MCBU Infrastructure

Covering an expanse of 40 acres, the university is affiliated with 183 institutions spanning across five districts of Madhya Pradesh: Chattarpur, Panna, Tikamgarh, Damoh, and Sagar. There were 3 huge laboratories in this college. The college boasts three expansive laboratories and well-kept classrooms. It features two libraries and provides decent hostel accommodations for approximately 150-160 students. The hostel comprises two boys' and one girls' residence. Additionally, the canteen is spacious, and the campus includes a large stadium accommodating various sports such as cricket, football, and volleyball.

Classroom

Special facilities are provided in the university classes. Projector screens have been arranged in the classrooms for the students so that they can concentrate more on their studies. Special arrangements have also been made for sports and various study materials at the university. The university has very spacious, smart classrooms installed with modern technology to enhance the learning experience of the students. Each classroom can accommodate approximately 80+ students. 

Auditorium/Seminar Hall

The MCBU has a multipurpose auditorium that is well-equipped, wifi-enabled, and has a seating capacity of more than 200 people to host campus-level events with ease. Various seminars, lectures, and workshops are organized in the college Auditorium. 

Library

There is a provision of the big library in this college in which every type of book can be found. The book journal can be found in the category of children. The overall structure of the college is very beautiful.

Internet

The Internet facility is provided on the MCBU campus. The speed of the internet is quite good according to students. Students can utilize the internet in the classroom as well.

Hostel

The university provides a hostel. In the hostel room, there are 2 fans 2 windows, and ground in the middle of the hostel. Their meal quality is very good and the menu consists of various food items. The hostel registration process is very easy for students. The MCBU hostel fee is also very affordable. 

Activities

The university organizes an annual fest as well as a technical fest which is mostly department-based. Occasions like ‘convocation ceremonies’ and youth fest are organized every year at the university. Various sports are organized every year in the university, such as cricket, kabaddi, etc. at the state level.

Cafe/Hangout

The cafe and hangout places are located a little away from the universities. However, the cafes and vibrant hangout places are located at a distance of a few kilometers.

Our Take:

The overall infrastructure and facilities of MCBU are considered up to the mark by the students of the university. The classroom, auditorium/seminar hall, and the overall campus are quite spacious. Apart from better facilities, as per some student reviews on Quora, it can be observed that the university must work towards providing more technologically enhanced lab facilities. During the practical session, it becomes difficult to use the dilapidated equipment.

MCBU Internships & Placements

The course-wise internship and placement details of MCBU University are provided below. 

Course-wise Internship

As per the student from the B.Tech course, about  10-15 % of students were placed from the course. The lowest package offered in the B.Tech course was INR 2.5 lacs per annum and the maximum package offered is INR  5.5 lacs per annum. Top recruiting companies are Mankind, Abbott, Mahindra, Iffco-Tokyo, Bajaj Fin Serve, and Life Insurance Corporation.

Course-wise Placement

Maharaja Chhatrasal Bundelkhand Vishwavidyalaya offers various skill development programs and seminars for students to enhance their skills which will act as a catalyst for their career growth in the future. The college provides placements in various banks like Kotak Bank, Axis Bank, City Bank, etc. The college gives a fair chance to all students in placements. The college also provides training to clear aptitude taken by banks and also trains the students for group discussion and personal interviews during placement.

Our Take:

It can be observed that small industries with lower packages come into college for the campus placement drive. As per student review on Quora, there is no proper internship program for students pursuing UG courses in the college as the college does not have such facilities. The packages received in MCBU placements are also less which hampers the career growth of the students.

MCBU Diversity & Representation

Maharaja Chhatrasal Bundelkhand University (MCBU) primarily attracts students from its home state, Madhya Pradesh, and neighboring regions. However, there's room to enhance diversity by welcoming students from other states. However, there's a noticeable gender imbalance, with more male students than females. Addressing these issues can make MCBU more inclusive and representative of a wider student community.

Home State

MCBU claims to have students from across India. According to the report, around 80% of the students are from within the state. The institution does not have a diverse community of students.

As per the available data, generally, students from the neighbouring states of Madhya Pradesh take admission to MCBU.

Male Female Student

The male-female student ratio in the college is not proportionate. As per the data, the number of male students on the campus is more than that of female counterparts.

Our Take:

Mostly, MCBU University is opted by the students of Madhya Pradesh state. However, there is scope for inviting students from other states of India to improve the diversity and representation of the university. Considering the male-female ratio, there exists a visible disproportionate ratio where the dominance of male students is noted.

MCBU Faculty/College Administration & Management

Maharaja Chhatrasal Bundelkhand Vishwavidyalaya provides scholarships/financial aid to students belonging to the SC/ST/OBC category. The college approves government scholarships granted by the government of MP or India. Our Take:

The provision of scholarships provides relief for economically backward students. The college administration and the management believe in the policy of ‘inclusiveness’. The administration makes sure the academic curriculum is delivered to every student. The faculty members are well-qualified and help students wherever required. 

MCBU Location

The nearest railway station to the college is Maharaja Chhatrasal Station, Chhatarpur. The passengers, express and superfast trains halt here with connectivity from the major cities. The nearest airport is Khajuraho Civil Aerodrome, which is located 45 km away from the college. The time taken from the railway station to reach the college is 15 minutes by cab/bus/rickshaw. The distance is 4.3 km.

Our Take: 

The location of the college is connected well using road transport. The transport facility is easily available and the accessibility to the campus is easier. It becomes easier for students especially from the outer states to reach the college in a short span of time. It is easier to reach the college conveniently from the Maharaja Chhatrasal Station railway station than the airport.

MCBU Expectation vs. Reality CLD Verdict

The institution is successful in catering to the higher education needs of the home state. Even though the university has a very good reputation, some students perhaps find the curriculum to be tough. The aspect that students find difficult is attendance criteria. Although the university offers a wide range of courses, some of the students feel that they do not have enough teaching fraternity or if they have, no experience. While making a choice, students should consider their own needs and preferences. The analysis must include factors such as tuition fees, placement rate, facilities provided, scholarship, location, accreditation, etc.
