Established in 2011 by the Indian Government, the IIM Udaipur has rapidly ascended the ranks to become one of the fastest-growing management schools in the country. This second-generation IIM has not only earned a place among the top global B-schools but has also received the prestigious AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) accreditation, a distinction shared by only three other IIMs - Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Calcutta. 

IIM Udaipur has consistently featured in the Masters in Management (MIM) QS World University Rankings for five consecutive years, securing a rank of 151+ among programmes worldwide. It has also achieved the 88th position globally in the FT Masters in Management 2023 Global Ranking for its two-year MBA programme, maintaining its place in the top 100 institutes for the fifth year in a row. 

In 2016, IIM Udaipur relocated to its permanent 300-acre campus in Balicha, becoming the first of the new IIMs to do so. Despite ongoing construction, the campus is fully operational with state-of-the-art classrooms, hostels, a library, and WiFi facilities.

Our take: The upward trajectory in IIM Udaipur's NIRF ranking over the years is a clear indication of its dedication towards enhancing the quality of management education. The institute has made a significant leap from the 18th position in 2021 to the 16th spot in 2023 in the management category, regardless of the dip in 2022. The steady rise in ranking is a testament to the institute's continuous efforts towards academic excellence.

IIM Udaipur Academia 

IIM Udaipur has a strong academic foundation with a focus on international exposure. It has had a collaboration with Purdue University for the PGDM in GSCM since 2013, which became a full-fledged offering by IIM Udaipur in 2021. Since 2012, IIMU has been offering student exchange programmes in association with foreign management schools, enhancing the global perspective of its MBA students. The institute carefully selects its international partners based on various factors such as international rankings, accreditations, course offerings, academic calendar, and geographical location. Currently, IIMU has partnerships with three German and five French business schools, providing an annual capacity for 33 students.

IIM Udaipur Infrastructure

Classrooms: The IIM Udaipur campus features air-conditioned classrooms with fixed projectors, high-end sound systems, and video conferencing facilities. The classrooms are acoustically engineered and have multiple types of microphones. Each desk has a power source.

Library: The IIM Udaipur library has an extensive collection of physical and digital resources, including books, e-books, journals, databases, case studies, and DVDs/CDs. The library is fully automated with advanced library management systems.

WiFi: The campus has a 1 Gbps internet connection with a 100 Mbps backup. WiFi is accessible 24/7 in all areas of the campus, ensuring sufficient uploading and downloading capabilities.

Hostels: The IIM Udaipur campus has three hostels - Ramanujan Boys Hostel, MDS Hostel for Boys, and a Girls' Hostel. The hostels are equipped with various facilities for residential students. For instance, PGP students have double occupancy rooms with cooling units. The females' hostel has a biometric security system. Each dorm houses 30-40 students across 3-4 floors and has security personnel. 

IIM Udaipur Internships & Placements

Internships

IIM Udaipur offers an eight-week mandatory Summer Internship for its two-year MBA programme. The internship takes place during April-May, with companies having the option to engage with students through pre-placement presentations outlining the projects on offer. The selection process, detailed in the "Calendar" section of the institute's website, begins with shortlisting based on student resumes. This is typically followed by group activities like Group Discussions (GDs), case studies, or written tests, depending on the company's selection policy. The final selection is made after one or more rounds of personal interviews. 

Post-selection, companies send official letters to the candidates through the Student Placements Committee, which then connects the candidates to their project mentors in the company. IIM Udaipur ensures optimal student performance during internships through three reviews: one at the end of the second week, one midway, and one at the end of the project. Companies also have the opportunity to make final job offers to exceptional candidates before the start of the final placement process. Recent data from the official website shows that out of 322 students who were eligible for summer internships, 317 chose to seek these opportunities through the institute. 

Placements 

The Indian Institute of Management Udaipur ensures its students are well prepared for the placement process. For both summer and final placements, students receive guidance from the Learning and Development (L&D) team, the Alumni, and the Placement Committee. This includes assistance with CV preparation, communication skills, and understanding employer expectations. The average CTC salary for the 2020-22 batch of two-year MBA students was Rs 17.3 lakhs. As per Vision 2030, the institute aims for its students to achieve at least 80% of the CTC level of students from IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Calcutta, a goal currently at just over 50%. 

For the Global Supply Chain Management (GSCM) and Digital Enterprise Management (DEM) programmes, students saw a significant salary increase, with the CTC salary rising by 174% from their initial salary upon joining the programme. Our Take: IIM Udaipur seems to have a well-organized system for internships and placements. They've got a mandatory eight-week summer internship, which is a great way for students to get real-world experience. Plus, they've got a strong support system in place to help students gear up for placements  - everything from CV prep to communication skills. The IIM Udaipur placement stats are impressive too. Every student is securing a job, and those in the GSCM and DEM programs are seeing a substantial increase in their salaries. It's clear that the education and training at IIM Udaipur are highly valued in the industry. What's really interesting is their Vision 2030. They're aiming high, wanting their students to earn at least 80% of what students from the top IIMs earn. It's ambitious, but given their track record, it seems achievable. 

IIM Udaipur Diversity & Representation

IIM Udaipur has a diverse student body, with a majority of students in both one-year and two-year PG programmes hailing from various states across India. However, when it comes to gender representation, there's a noticeable skew towards male students. In the one-year programme, out of 74 students, only 11 are women. The two-year programme also reflects a similar trend, with 218 female students compared to 412 male students. While the presence of female students is significant, the gender ratio clearly indicates a need for more balanced representation.

Our take: IIM Udaipur has a good mix of students from different states, which is great. But when it comes to the gender ratio, there's a clear imbalance. There are more male students than female students in both the one-year and two-year programmes. This isn't just about numbers, it's about creating a balanced and inclusive environment where everyone has a chance to learn, so that's something they should work on. More balance would definitely make the campus a better place for everyone.

IIM Udaipur Faculty

IIM Udaipur has successfully assembled a team of highly qualified faculty members from around the globe over the past decade. According to student feedback, the faculty comprises a balanced mix of both young and experienced educators, many of whom are alumni of prestigious universities both in India and abroad, including Iowa State University, Nanyang Technical University, IIM Ahmedabad, and IIM Bengaluru.
