GLS University was established in 2015 and is a private university located in the state of Gujarat, Ahmedabad. The university was set up by the Gujarat Law Society (GLS). There are seven departments in the university covering courses in the fields of Business/Management/IT/Design etc. The Institution currently has more than 25,000 students pursuing courses at various levels such as UG/PG/Ph.D and has over 500 faculties imparting knowledge. 

Spread across 10 acres, GLS University offers all modern facilities, from computer labs to a gym. It claims to be one of the largest and oldest schools in Gujarat, making it a definite choice for aspirants in the state. GLS grads affirm that the university keeps upgrading its infrastructure while adding more courses year after year. Having said that, the college does not seem to have a sports ground although the official website claims that students engage in athletics. 

GLS University Ranking: Not Ranked by NIRF!

India Today ranked GLS University 24th out of 100 colleges in India in 2020. GLS University's overall ranking by ‘Outlook’ was 31st out of 110 colleges in India in 2021. Through IIRF, GLS University Overall ranking was 162 out of 171 colleges in India in 2023 and it was 155 out of 161 colleges in India in 2022.

Our Take:

The GLS University didn’t get any rank in the NIRF Ranking 2023. However, various entities such as India Today, Outlook, and IIRF have offered ranking to the university out of many colleges in India. Though NIRF ranking is a good criterion to judge the quality of any institution, it’s not the only way. Rankings by other institutions also add value to the university.

The course curriculum makes use of technology in the digital world as every discipline needs IT infrastructure support for studies and project work in class. As per students' review on Quora, it can be said that the faculty in the university not only focuses on theoretical knowledge but also on practical studies. The industry visits especially for students pursuing management courses are of great help in gaining exposure. However, many have had a negative experience in terms of curriculum as it is updated every year and not every semester, leading to a definite lag when compared to its counterparts. 

GLS University Infrastructure

GLS University was established with the prime objective of providing an ideal and creative learning environment to students. The university continues the tradition of excellence in the education of the sponsoring body of the University, i.e. Gujarat Law Society (GLS). Since its formation, GLS has taken a prominent role by offering programs in several disciplines such as Business Management, Computer Technology, Information Technology, Commerce, Business Administration, Education, Law and Humanities, etc. All the courses being offered at GLS have a high preference and acceptance in the student community as well as helpful in professional career ahead.

Classroom

The classrooms of GLS University are designed as learning centres with proper seating and discussion arrangements for students. All the classrooms are equipped with wireless connectivity, commercial LCD projectors and overhead projectors, and audio-video aids to support the lectures. The air-conditioned classrooms are equipped with IT tools which create a comfortable environment for the students and faculty members.

The auditorium of GLS University is used to accommodate a large number of people. The auditorium is used to conduct several workshops, events, meetings, seminars, and several other gatherings. As per the report, it can accommodate up to 300+ people at a time.

The library of GLS University is an attractive space, especially for book lovers. The collection has a wide array of journals, multiple research papers, printed books, and dissertations for students belonging from different streams, especially Ph.D. In fact, there are various ‘department-based special libraries’ that help students to choose resources conveniently as per their field and program of study they are pursuing. The Cafeteria at GLS University is the most crowded and one of the best places on campus where students enjoy delicious meals along with light-hearted conversations with classmates. Food prices are affordable for students and proper hygiene is maintained to ensure the safety of both students and the faculty.

While the GLS campus offers extensive facilities, as per students' review on Quora, there might be room for improvement in terms of infrastructure maintenance. The authority of the university must ensure that facilities are consistently well-maintained which will enhance the overall experience for students.

GLS University tends to provide the best possible employment opportunities to students through a placement and career development cell, which is established in college. Generally, for any other institutes that conduct pre-placement training sessions for students in the final year of a course’s session, GLS University begins the training for students from 1st year itself.

The university has persistently maintained a commendable internship placement record for all the years of its existence. They all have stipends starting from INR 3000 to 15000 per month during the course of the internship. Moreover, every year a handful of management graduates with budding entrepreneur skills even start their own ventures after the completion of the course.

Our Take:

As per university norms, 5th-semester students become eligible for campus placement. Many big IT firms and companies such as TCS, Infosys, Wipro, and many other companies coming for placement purposes. Students claim that there is a very high percentage of students getting placements in the university. Also, given that the university has a tie-up with TATA, graduates are mostly placed at the same company. The placement committee is also said to be efficient, making it easier for students to land jobs at reputed companies irrespective of the course they graduate from. 

GLS University Diversity & Representation

GLS University has a healthy mix of different cultures and students from different parts of the country. Designated teacher and student representation is present at the GLS University campus. Although the majority of the students hail from their home state, there have been no major instances of discrimination among students. Recently students from outside of India have also enrolled in courses offered by GLS University increasing the diversity among students even more.

As per the student's review, some students may find that administrative processes, such as permissions for going out, especially for hostel students can be time-consuming or complex in nature. Streamlining and channelling the administrative procedures could improve the overall campus experience of students.

GLS University Location

The GLS University from Ahmedabad Junction is 5.7 km. Students can get access to a cab/auto/bus from the station. It takes 15 min to reach the campus from the station. The distance from the airport (Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport) to the GLS University campus is 12 km. GLS University, Ahmedabad is located in Ellisbridge, Ahmedabad. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport is located 12 km away from the campus and is the nearest airport from the university and students can reach the campus from the airport in about 20 minutes. The nearest railway station from the university campus is the Ahmedabad Railway Station which is located 6.2 km away and students can reach the campus in approximately 10-15 minutes from the railway station.

Our Take:

As per the campus location, it can be said that the availability of means of transport is easier. Students can reach the university in a convenient manner. As per the location of the college, the university is closer to the railway station than the airport. From the student’s review on Quora regarding campus location, it can be found that it is safe for the students to return to the campus before evening. However, the college is not far away from the city, but to maintain ones security, it is advisable.
