RMLAU

Campus at a Glimpse
Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University also known as RMLAU is spread across an area of 145 acres on the outskirts of Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, India. Initially, the university’s name was Avadh University, later renamed in 1993 as Dr Rammanohar Lohia Avadh University (RMLAU). It is a public university which laid its foundation in 1975. RMLAU has been accredited by NAAC B grade. It is also recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). A total of 129 faculty are enrolled under RMLAU. The university has a student strength of 3977. There are over 600 colleges affiliated with RMLAU spread over 7 districts including Lucknow, Gonda, Ayodhya, Ambedkarnagar, Barabanki, Sultanpur, and Baharaich.

RMLAU offers programmes at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. Some of the popular RMLAU courses include BTech, MTech, BA, MCA, LLB, etc. These courses are offered by RMLAU in multiple disciplines such as Law, Physics, History, Rural Development, etc. All of the RMLAU courses are offered in regular and offline mode. RMLAU admission is done on the basis of merit and entrance exams such as JEE Main/ CUET/ NEET, etc.

The other side of the coin is that most of the students at RMLAU are locals. This shows that there is a lack of diversity when it comes to students of RMLAU. As per the reports, a high preference is given to local students at the time of selection. However, there is no discrimination faced by the students from the faculty in classrooms.

RMLAU NIRF Ranking

RMLAU has participated in NIRF rankings for the year 2023. As per NIRF ranking 2023, RMLAU has been ranked in 136th position among all universities in India under the best university, Engineering, and Innovation categories.

Our Take

Since RMLAU has been ranked at the position of 136th universities in India by NIR, this shows that even though it is not providing excellent quality education, it still stands at a decent level. Being among the top 150 universities in the country with so many colleges shows that RMLAU offers good infrastructure, decent quality education, updates its curriculum, and caters to all student’s needs.

RMLAU Academia & Batch Size

RMLAU conducts yearly exams for each course which is divided into 3 components: written exam, oral test, and class tests. The written exams hold a weightage of 70% while the oral test has 20% and class tests have a 10% weightage. The minimum marks required for passing shall be 40% of the total marks for the written paper and the oral test taken together. The final marks are awarded in the form of grade points on a scale of 10 grade points average.
RMLAU has a total faculty size of 129 with a total student strength of 1975. This shows that the student-to-faculty ratio is decent for RMLAU and there is no overpopulation of students as compared to faculty. This means the faculty will be able to provide proper attention to students during lectures in the classrooms.

Our Take

This is good that RMLAU follows a segregated scoring system which can help students get a clear picture of how they need to manage their scores. The university also provides re-appearing options to help students improve their grades which is also a plus point for the students.

RMLAU Infrastructure

Classrooms

The classrooms of RMLAU are very spacious and clean. Each classroom has a capacity to hold 80+ students. However, the classrooms are not air-conditioned and do not have any technologies like modern classrooms. On the basis of reports, RMLAU still follows the traditional & old method of classroom teaching which often gets uncomfortable for students, especially in summer.

Library

RMLAU has one central library which is fully equipped with lakhs of e-books, national and international journals, and periodicals. The libraries are also wi-fi enabled. The feedback of the students says that they are satisfied with the library service.

Hostel

RMLAU has separate hostel facilities for both boys and girls. The hostels have a capacity to accommodate 460 students in boys hostel and 100 students in girls hostel. Students can opt for double or single accommodation based on their preference. RMLAU also offers other facilities in hostel such as mess, sports facilities, etc. As per the reports, the hostels of RMLAU are in good condition and the wardens are also well-behaved and appropriate disciplinary action is taken against miscreants.

Internet Connectivity

RMLAU complete campus has wi-fi access. The speed of the internet is quite good according to students. Students can use wi-fi in classrooms, labs, hostels, and library too.

Labs

As the students said, the laboratories at RMLAU are not properly managed. The labs are not properly maintained and are not equipped with the latest tools.

Clubs & Events

There are student clubs run by RMLAU where students can participate in extracurricular activities. Every month, 1-3 events are conducted by the university where students get to showcase their talents.

Our Take

On the basis of the report, the overall infrastructure of RMLAU is average. Even though the students are satisfied with the hostels and library, the classrooms and labs are a major disappointment. With the advancements going on, RMLAU should understand the need to develop smart classrooms. The labs are also very old and outdated as specified by students. This stands as a limitation to students’ learning as practical knowledge is very important to learn.

RMLAU Internships and Placements

RMLAU has not released its placement data. However, as per the NIRF 2022 report, 60 students from BTech were placed at an average package of INR 2.65 LPA. Moreover, the report also states that 6 MTech students were placed at an average package of INR 2.75 LPA. Even though this appears to be below-average statistics, the university claims to have improved in terms of placements by 22% as compared to previous years. One good point of RMLAU placement is that some of the very prominent companies visit RMLAU for placements such as ICICI Prudential Life Insurance, Tech Mahindra, Capgemini, Wipro, etc.

Our Take

RMLAU does not release the official date for yearly placements. This shows that the university does not boast about its placements. However, this can also mean that the university does not have good placement data to show, which is evident from the student’s review. In today’s corporate world, earning only 1.65 LPA after completing BTech seems like a scam. This shows there is below average ROI at RMLAU on course fees.

RMLAU Location

RMLAU is located in Faizabad city of Ayodhya district, Uttar Pradesh, India. The university is in mid of the city and is surrounded by all the necessary infrastructure such as coffee shops, stationary shops, etc. If the report is to be believed, the location is good for students to go out on weekends and enjoy their day.

RMLAU: Expectation vs Reality CLD Verdict

RMLAU is a prominent university that has been NBA accredited, UGC recognised, and is a member of the AIU. This stands as positive points for the university and its quality of education. Adding to this quality factor, RMLAU also comes under top 150 universities in India by NIRF ranking. The hostel facilities of the university are very good which makes most of the students go for hostel facilities rather than opting for outer accommodations. The grading system of RMLAU also shows that university prefers to keep its academic system organised and transparent and focuses on overall benefit for the students.

But since every coin has two sides, there are some downside factors to RMLAU too. The classrooms and labs of RMLAU are very outdated. Since most of the institutes nowadays are going for smart classrooms, this makes RMLAU look like its lacking behind in innovation. Also, RMLAU fails to give decent packages to BTech and MTech students for which the course fees are usually higher. This can be considered as a bad ROI.
