Symbiosis International University administers the SLAT, a common entrance exam for admission to all affiliated law schools. The assessment, however, is only a stage in the SLAT selection process, which also includes a writing ability test (WAT) and personal interview rounds (PI).

What sections does the SLAT exam paper consist of?

The SLAT examination is conducted every year by Symbiosis International (Deemed) University. Different sections from which questions come in the SLAT examination are Analytical Reasoning, General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Reading Comprehension and Logical Reasoning. SLAT is an undergraduate-level examination where the question paper consists of multiple-choice questions. The maximum marks allotted for each section are 12 totalling 60 marks. The good thing is that SLAT does not have negative markings.

What is the syllabus of the SLAT Analytical Reasoning Section?

The SLAT Analytical Reasoning section consists of 12 marks with one mark each for every question. The topics that candidates have to study in the Analytical Reasoning section are Coding and Decoding, Numeric Series, Alphabetic Series, Cube and Dice, Clocks and Calendars, Blood Relations, Syllogism, Deductive Reasoning, Algebra, Percentage, Cause and Effect Questions, Sitting Arrangement, Critical Reasoning and Misc Reasoning. Why is SLAT conducted?

Law aspirants who want to study BA LL.B (Hons)/ BBA LL.B (Hons)/ BA LL.B/ BBA LL.B at any one of the Symbiosis International (Deemed) Universities have to appear for the SLAT exam. SLAT is a computer-based test (CBT) that is conducted by the university itself. Since 20218, SET which was the law exam was known as SLAT (Symbiosis Law Admission Test). Based on the SLAT scores, candidates are shortlisted by the SLS. After that, the selected candidates have to appear for a Personal Interview (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT).

The weightage of the SLAT MCQ part is 50, the Personal interview for 30 marks and the Writing Ability Test for 20 marks totalling 100 marks. There is no negative marking in the examination. 

Is it important to take a crash course for SLAT preparation?

You can take a crash course if you are clear with your basics and you are good at your class 10-level maths topics. If you are thinking of taking the SLAT exam, then you should start your preparation immediately. The sooner you start, the better it will be. Although, the preparation time required by a candidate completely depends on them. It cannot be estimated beforehand how much time each candidate will take. 8-10 months are enough to prepare for SLAT. 

Can I prepare for SLAT without any coaching?

Yes, you can easily prepare for SLAT without any coaching classes. The SLAT examination is not so tough if you are thoroughly prepared but as lots of candidates take the exam, the cutoff remains high for all the Symbiosis Law Schools. If you have already applied for CLAT, you will have an idea of the topics as the syllabus for both CLAT and SLAT are almost the same. You can also prepare for SLAT in 2 months if you follow the correct preparation strategy and devote 9-10 hours to studying every day.

How difficult is the Analytical Reasoning section of SLAT?

The Analytical Reasoning section of SLAT is not difficult. Questions are asked on Elementary mathematics, Deductive Reasoning, Algebra, Percentage, Profit and Loss, Odd-Even Discretion, Logical Fallacy, Average, Analogy, Syllogism, etc. One of the most scoring sections of the exam is the Analytical Reasoning section. Candidates must solve as many mock tests as possible to prepare themselves well for the exam to increase their speed and accuracy which will help them at the time of the actual examination.

How was the previous Analytical Reasoning section of SLAT?

In SLAT 2022, questions were asked about Geometric Progression, Probability, TSD, Profit and Loss, Visual Reasoning, Missing Numbers (Diagram), Permutation and Combination, Linear Equations, etc. The questions were mostly easy from all the topics, only questions asked from Geometric Progression were moderate. Overall, the SLAT 2022 was pretty easier compared to other years. The question paper for SLAT 2021 was also easy compared to the last two years. A good score in the Analytical Reasoning section for 2021 was 9.
