Normalization is a very important process in the AP ICET exam, which ensures that no candidate is benefitted or disadvantaged from receiving an easier or tougher question paper. Check the Normalization Process of the AP ICET 2022 exam here, which will be used to calculate the final score of candidates.

AP ICET Normalization Process 2022

Now, the AP ICET exam is conducted in a total of 4 sessions with shifts on a day. Each candidate is allowed to appear for a single session only. Even though both sessions are conducted based upon the same AP ICET exam pattern and have questions from the same syllabus of the AP ICET exam, there are chances that there may be a difference between the difficulty level of each exam.

To ensure that this discrepancy does not compromise the fairness of AP ICET final results and percentile score, a normalization process will be used. SVU has released the AP ICET normalization process in the instruction booklet of the AP ICET exam. Candidates appearing for the exam can take note of the AP ICET normalization process given in this article to have an idea of how the AP ICET Results are calculated.

AP ICET Results 2022: Why Opt for Normalization of Scores?

AP ICET 2022 exam is conducted in two sessions. However, it must be noted that both the sessions are based on the same syllabus, same pattern for candidates having the same eligibility criteria. A candidate cannot appear in two sessions. He/she will be eligible to appear only in one session. Candidates must be aware of the fact that the AP ICET question paper will be different for each session. Hence, there is a possibility that the difficulty level of questions vary in both the sessions of AP ICET 2022. Nevertheless, the conducting authority has assured that it will frame questions for both the sessions that are of the same standard and similar difficulty level. Furthermore, the conducting authority will also adopt a normalization process to eliminate any such variations in the difficulty level of various sessions.

Importance of Normalization in AP ICET 2022

Normalization is a very important process in the calculation of the results of the AP ICET exam. Normalization ensures that students who have appeared for a paper with easier difficulty do not get an advantage over those who have attempted a comparatively more difficult question paper.

Different sets of question papers are prepared for each session of the AP ICET exam and even though SVU tries to maintain the same level of difficulty across all of the question papers, there are chances that some students have to face a more difficult question paper than the others. Here, the normalization process is applied to ensure that the final results are fair so that no student gets a benefit or disadvantage because of this discrepancy.

After normalization, the marks of candidates who have attempted an easier question paper may be decreased and the marks of those who have appeared for a tougher question paper may be given a slight increase. Thus, the performance of each student is measured accurately and the scores can give the correct comparison of the performance of each candidate.

Normalization is a very common process in exams and it is also used for the same purpose by many other popular entrance examinations such as the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Common Admission Test (CAT), Joint Entrance Exam (JEE), etc.

The normalization process of various entrance exams in India is given below.

Normalization aims to offer a fair chance to the candidates who had to solve a question paper that was more difficult compared to the ones who got an easier paper. The idea is to rationalize rank the candidates based on the global performance. The formula given below is used for calculating the normalized marks of a candidate in the AP ICET exam.

Normalized Marks = GMS + [ { (TopAverageGlobal - GMS) / (TopAverageSession - SMS) } x (Marks Obtained by Candidate - SMS) ]

The normalization process of the AP ICET exam involves the calculation of the following parameters.

  • SMS = Average Score of the Candidate's Session + Standard Deviation of the Candidate's Session

  • GMS = Average Score of All Sessions + Standard Deviation of All Sessions

  • TopAverageSession = Average Marks of the Top 0.1% candidates of a session

  • TopAverageGlobal = Average Marks of the top 0.1% candidates across both sessions

It is also important to note that for candidates for whom there is no qualifying cutoff in the AP ICET exam (i.e. SC / ST category candidates) if the final marks after normalization go below zero, they are awarded zero marks in the exam. Normalization is a very important step in the calculation of AP ICET Results. Candidates are ranked based on their normalized scores only. If a tie exists between more than one student, then AP ICET-2022 normalization marks will be considered for resolving the tie.

Through normalization, the exam conducting body ensures that each candidate gets a fair chance at proving their potential. After normalization, MBA colleges in Andhra Pradesh and MCA colleges in Andhra Pradesh that accept AP ICET scores for admission can get an accurate idea of the performance of the candidates and conduct the admission process accordingly.

AP ICET Normalization 2022: Important Points

  • If any General Category candidate attempts to avail of the benefit of relaxation of minimum qualifying marks in AP ICET 2022 to obtain a specific rank, or claims to belong to SC/ST category, the conducting body has the authority to cancel the rank in case the claim is found to be invalid at any point of time.

  • The rank obtained in the AP ICET 2022 examination is the primary criterion on which the selection of candidates and allotment to colleges depends.

AP ICET Normalization 2022: Qualifying Criteria

The conducting authority will assign ranks to the following students in the order of the merit on the basis of marks obtained in the AP ICET exam:

  • General Category candidates securing 25% qualifying marks in AP ICET (50 out of 200), and

  • Candidates belonging to the SC/ST category to whom qualifying marks have not been prescribed

  • AP ICET scorecard will be valid for one year only.

Only the candidates who clear the AP ICET cutoff are considered eligible to take part in the counselling process. Apart from this, every college specifies its own cutoffs for admission. AP ICET colleges are divided into four categories -- A, B, C and D -- as per the cutoff ranks from high to low.

AP ICET Results 2022- Tie-breaking criteria

  • During the preparation of the AP ICET 2022 merit list, if it is observed that more than one student scores the same marks, the tie will be resolved by the following method:

  • By considering the marks scored in Section-A

  • If the tie is not resolved, marks obtained by a student in Section-B will be taken into consideration.

  • If the tie still continues, the age of the candidate will be considered, giving the older candidate priority.

Dear Student,

Both Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Commerce (MCom) are good choices of courses after a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree.

While an MBA is a management-based course and will prepare you for administrative roles in businesses, an MCom is a technical course and will prepare you for a career in core Finance and Commerce related areas.

An MBA is a good choice of course if you wish to join the industry as a management professional. The course promises high salaries but only if you complete it from a reputed college. You also have to keep …
