CIFNET 2022 exam which is being conducted for admission to BFSc and Vessel Navigator Course (VNC)/ Marine Fitter Course (MFC) courses has been conducted. CIFNET has released CIFNET 2022 rank list, merit list, and allotment list for VNC and MFC in PDF format at cifnet.gov.in. The CIFNET 2022 exam for B.F.Sc.(NS) course was held on 23 July and on 16 July for VNC and MFC courses.
The conducting institute - Central Institute of Fisheries, Nautical and Engineering Training (CIFNET) was established in 1963 in Kochin by the Govt. of India. It was established with the purpose to train people to meet the needs fishing industry in India. Subsequently, two units of CIFNET were established, at Chennai, Visakhapatnam in 1968 and 1981 respectively, for meeting the additional requirement of manpower necessitated by the expansion of the marine fishing industry with a large number of fishing vessels in their fleet. The name was later upgraded consistently with its functions as ‘Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical & Engineering Training’ (CIFNET). CIFNET is the only national institute of its kind in the country to meet the training requirements of technical and certified personnel such as Skippers, Mates, Engineers, and Engine Drivers of ocean-going fishing vessels as stipulated in the Merchant Shipping (Amendment) Act. 1987. CIFNET is also responsible for developing the required technical manpower for supporting shore establishments. The institute offers courses like Bachelor of Fishery Science (Nautical Science) B.F.Sc.(N.S.) and Vessel Navigator Course (VNC) and Marine Fitter Course (MFC). Candidates seeking admission in one of these courses must meet the eligibility criteria, fill in the CIFNET application form and appear in the CIFNET entrance examination. CIFNET 2022 Eligibility Criteria
Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training (CIFNET), Fine Arts Avenue, Cochin offers three major courses: Bachelor Of Fishery Science (Nautical Science) and Vessel Navigator Course(VNC) / Marine Fitter Course (MFC).
Detailed eligibility criteria to take admission in one of these courses is given below:
CIFNET Bachelor Of Fishery Science (Nautical Science) Eligibility Criteria
The candidate must have passed Class 12th from a recognised board.
He/ she must be from PCM or PCB stream.
The candidate must have scored at least 50% marks in all the subjects.
There is no minimum percentage criteria for SC/ ST candidates.
The age of the candidate must be between 17 to 20 years as on October 1st, 2022.
The maximum age of candidates taking admission through lateral admission is 22 years.
CIFNET Vessel Navigator Course(Vnc) / Marine Fitter Course(Mfc) Eligibility Criteria
The candidate must have passed 10th from a recognised board.
He/ she must have studied Maths and Science in the qualifying examination.
The minimum percentage obtained in Class X should be 40%.
The age of candidates should be between 15 to 20 years, as of August 2022.
There is no upper age limit restrictions for SC/ ST candidates.

CIFNET 2022 Application Form
The application form for CIFNET 2022 can be downloaded from the official website of the institute.
The candidate must fill in the application form and attach the required documents like the qualifying exams mark sheet, community certificates (if required) along with the application.

The applicant must ensure that no information mentioned in the application is incorrect.
He/ she must avoid overwriting in the application as it may lead to the rejection of the application.
After the application is sent at the institute, no information in the application can be altered, corrected or added
The applicant must fill in the application in English using Capital letters.
The characters must be filled in the provided box and there must be one box blank between words.
The applicant must only use a black ballpoint pen to fill the application.
The candidate can use a comma to separate letters and group of words.
Once the application is filed, it must be sent to “The Director, CIFNET, Fine Arts Avenue, Kochi-682016”
All applicants must also make a payment of application fee which can be done online. The CIFNET application fee is mentioned below:

CIFNET CET 2022 Syllabus
CIFNET CET conducted for BFSc course covers topics from subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Maths and English language.
CIFNET CET conducted for VNC/ MFC courses will cover topics from Maths, Science subjects and English language.
The level of questions will be according to the syllabus of the qualifying examination.
CIFNET 2022 Admit Card
Candidates who apply for CIFNET CET 2022 can download the admit card through the official website of CIFNET. The link to download the admit card will be activated on the defined dates by the institute.
CIFNET CET Admit Card is a mandatory document to carried at the examination centre along with an ID proof.
Those who are not able to download or receive amidst card before the defined date can contact CIFNET office centres of Kochi/Chennai or Visakhapatnam. They can also refer to the institute website for updates related to CIFNET 2022 Admit card.
CIFNET CET 2022 Result
The result of CIFNET CET will be released on the official website of CIFNET. The merit list of candidates will be prepared and published online.
Candidates whose name will be in the merit list will be considered for admission in BFSc(NS) and VNC/ MFC courses offered by the institute.

Bachelor Of Fishery Science (Nautical Science) Admission/ Selection Process
- Admission in Bachelor Of Fishery Science (Nautical Science) courses is considered on the basis of Common Entrance Test (CET) and Academic Credentials.
- A total of 40 seats are available for BFSc course among which 321 seats are for Gen/Gen-EWS/OBC/SC/ST category candidates, 1 seat for NRI, 1 for Foreign National and 7 for Lateral Entry System.
- The Common Entrance Test (CET) is conducted in designated centres in Kochi, Chennai and Visakhapatnam.
Vessel Navigator Course(VNC)/ Marine Fitter Course(MFC) Admission/ Selection Process
- Admission in Vessel Navigator Course(VNC) / Marine Fitter Course(MFC) course offered at CIFNET is considered on the basis of All India Common Entrance Test (CET).
- A total of 20 students are considered for admission in VNC course and 20 students for MFC course.
- 16 seats are available for Gen/Gen-EWS/OBC/SC/ST category candidates and 4 seats for State Government Sponsorship at each centre ( preferably from fishermen community).
- The CET is conducted in designated centres in cities Kochi, Chennai, Vizag, Kolkata, Patna.
Candidates who are selected for admission and join the institute receive a stipend of Rs 1500/- per month. On the completion of VNC/MFC, Post Intuitional Training. He/ She shall receive a stipend of Rs. 20500/- pm and one-time Uniform allowance of Rs 2500/-.
