List of New Law Degree Courses 2023

BA (Law) Specialization Courses

Within a short period of time, the National Law University of Odisha has established itself as an institution dedicated to high-quality legal teaching and research. One of the top sixty universities in the nation to receive permission to launch new programmes is NLU Odisha. According to the MHRD's National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), NLUO obtained the 9th place overall among NLUs and the 14th place overall among all law schools and departments at central and state universities in India. From the academic year 2023–2024, it will be developing and introducing new BA (law) specialization degree programmes.

In light of the National Educational Policy (NEP) 2020's recommendation that students take courses with numerous entry and exit points that are more specifically job-oriented courses, the National Law University of Odisha has launched the BA (Specialization) programme in 2022 in five specialized vocational streams related to law and the legal profession. The programme seeks to provide graduates with the skills needed for employment and career growth in the field of law. The courses have been created in compliance with the Sector Skill Council's guidelines under the National Skill Development Corporation while also taking the UGC requirements for the BA (law) degree programme into consideration. The following five streams are available as specializations for the BA at NLUO:

• Legal Counselors 
• Legal Journalism 
• Advocacy 
• Legal Profession Assistants 
• Law and Entrepreneurship 

Students can enroll in the three-year LLB course with this degree even though it does not grant them the right to practice law.

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates must fulfill all the prescribed eligibility requirements as laid down by the National Law University Odisha in order to apply for any of its BA (law) specialization courses. The eligibility criteria are mentioned below:

• Candidates who have passed class 12th or equivalent exam from a recognized school board/ equivalent institution/ college will be eligible for admission to these courses offered by NLUO.
• There is no minimum age requirement to enroll in any of the BA (law) specialization programmes.
• Candidates must be citizens of India with a valid photo ID proof issued by the government authority.

Duration:

The BA (Law) specialization programmes offered by the National Law University, Odisha has multiple exit and entry points which means that the total duration of any of the BA (Law) specialization programme is for a period of 3 years but candidates who exit the course after 1 year will receive a diploma certificate, candidates who exit the course after 2 years will receive an advanced diploma certificate and candidates who will study for complete 3 years fulfilling all the requirements of the course, will receive a 3-year BA (law) specialization degree recognized by the UGC.

Admission Process:

Candidates must note that the admission process will be strictly based on merit that will be calculated based on scores obtained in class 12th or an equivalent exam. The application process will be completely online for the BA (Law) specialization degree programmes. The finalization and selection of streams by candidates will be based on their preference and the aggregate marks/ percentage obtained by them in class 12th or equivalent examination.

The 10th class mark will be used as a tie breaker if the aggregate class 12th marks are equal. Candidates with higher scores in the tenth grade will be given precedence for admission to the course. Candidates must note that the online application for the BA (Law) specialization degree courses for the session 2023-24 will begin in the month of February 2023 and will end in April 2023. The classes will commence from July 4, 2023. Therefore, interested candidates are advised to keep checking the NLUO’s official website for any latest information and updates.

BA (Law) specialization in Legal Counselors: A legal counselor is a member of the legal profession or an attorney whose primary responsibility is to offer clients legal advice. 3-year LLB (Hons.) Postgraduate Degree Course

India's first 5-year integrated BA LLB (Hons) curriculum was introduced by NLSIU in 1988. The accomplishment of this initiative has preserved NLS's reputation as the organization that fundamentally altered legal education in India. In 2022, NLSIU introduced a new, multidisciplinary 3-year LLB (Hons) Program that reimagines legal education for the twenty-first century. 

Graduates from all disciplines are eligible to enroll in the three-year LLB (Hons) postgraduate professional degree programme. It is a prerequisite for entrance to the practice of law. The curriculum complies with all Bar Council of India criteria and goes above and above to provide a challenging legal education along with NLSIU's distinctive curricular and pedagogical approach. The curriculum is designed to emphasize experiential learning while combining multidisciplinary legal study. Theory and practice will be integrated into the programme. The programme is created to produce lawyers who can handle the problems of the twenty-first century.

In the Academic Year 2022 - 2023, 60 students were admitted to the 3-year LLB (Hons.) full-time degree course. On April 24, 2022, an all-India national entrance exam was held, with admissions following. The first group of students started classes on July 1, 2022. Candidates must note that 75% attendance for each course under this programme is mandatory.

Eligibility Criteria:

Anyone with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited national or international university, in any discipline, is eligible to apply for the programme. Candidates for the General Category should have received minimum aggregate marks of 45%. Candidates who fall under the SC/ ST/ OBC-NCL/ PWD category must have earned a minimum aggregate marks of 40%.

Although applicants who are in the last year of their bachelor's degree are still able to apply, their final offer of admission will only be made if they successfully complete their degree with the required aggregate marks outlined above. The qualifying degree must be verified as having been earned by December 31, 2023, at the latest.

Duration:

The duration of NLSIU’s LLB (Hons.) degree programme is 3 years and it is a full-time degree course.

Admission Process:

An entrance exam at the national level will be required for admission. An interview plus a written portion make up the examination process. The National Law School Admission Test, also known as the NLSAT, is a written examination worth 150 marks, of which 65 marks are allotted for subjective questions and 75 marks are allocated to MCQs of the objective type. Ten marks will be given for the interview that will be conducted in the second round for all those candidates who will clear the NLSAT written examination.

The 3-year LLB (Hons) program's total intake capacity is 120 for the academic year 2023–2024. A few of the important points related to the NLSIU’s 3-year LLB (Hons.) course admission for the session 2023-24 are as follows:

• An application fee of Rs. 2500 must be paid at the time of online application form submission for the BA LLB (Hons.) programme. Candidates from the SC, ST, OBC-NCL, PWD, and EWS categories must pay Rs. 2000.
• Applications will be accepted up until 11:59:59 pm on April 6, 2023, for the academic year 2023 - 24.
• By the first week of June 2023, the final admissions list will be made public. The first day of class will begin from July 1, 2023.
• On the university's website, you can get the syllabus for the NLSAT-LLB.
• The website of the university also provides information on the program's fees and other specifics.
• The NLSAT-LLB will be held in a number of locations across the nation. The application portal i.e. admissions.nls.ac.in includes a list of all the centers where NLSAT-LLB will be conducted in 2023.

MBA Law Course

MBA (Law) is a two-year full-time degree program offered by the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab.

Admission Process:

There are two steps in the selection of applicants for the MBA Law programme. Candidates who have applied to the course, paid the application fee, and meet the eligibility requirements are shortlisted in the first round of selection.

Group Discussion and Personal Interview Rounds will be done in the second step. The ultimate decision will be made based on a combination of factors, including the candidates' performance in the group discussion and personal interview as well as their prior academic records.

MA in Legal Studies Programme

Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) had announced admissions to the MA Legal Studies programme last year for the 2022-23 academic year and onwards. In partnership with the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR) University of Law, the university wants to provide a master's degree programme called MA in legal studies. This programme would last for two years and be regular (full-time) consisting of a total of 4 semesters. The student's ability to learn about Arbitration, Mediation, Conciliation, and other Alternative Dispute Resolution techniques is enhanced by this degree programme.

The MA in legal studies curriculum is meant to help students comprehend and apply the law, preparing them for competitive exams and developing their soft skills. Although the students may not be able to practice as attorneys after completing this programme, it will improve their capacity to compete against the expanding competition and their employability in NGOs, Civil Society Organizations, the Health Sector, and the Corporate Sector.

Eligibility Criteria:

The eligibility criteria for the 2-year MA in legal studies offered at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) are as follows:

• Bachelor's degree or its equivalent from an accredited university or institution plus the study of Urdu as a subject/ language or as a medium of instruction in classes 10 through 12 or at the graduate level or courses equivalent at Madrasas that have been approved by MANUU.
• Candidates must have achieved a bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university in India.
• Candidates with Public Administration and Political Science as majors in college will receive preference.
• There is no upper age limit for admission to the MA in legal studies programme offered by the Maulana Azad National Urdu University.
• Candidates who are in the last semester of their graduation are also eligible to apply subject to the submission of proof of the successful passing of their graduation.

Note: Candidates who have studied Urdu will be given preference. In the absence of such candidates, other candidates who are otherwise eligible will be taken into consideration for admission under the rules, with the condition that they enroll in and successfully complete the university's certificate programme in Urdu. If they fail to do so, degrees will not be granted.

Duration:

The duration of the full-time MA in legal studies degree course offered by Maulana Azad National Urdu University is 2 years.

Admission Process:

Admission to the MA in legal studies programme will take place on a merit basis. A merit list will be prepared based on marks obtained by candidates in their qualifying exams. Candidates whose name appears on the merit list will be able to take admission to the programme. Candidates must note that their qualifying exam result should have been declared before the last date of the application process for the MA in legal studies course. Additionally, they must present their mark sheets and other documentation in their original forms while applying. There won't be any more correspondence in this regard.

3-year LLB (Hons.) Course

A postgraduate professional law degree programme called the 3-year LLB (Hons) is now open to applications for all the earnest law aspirants at Mahindra University. The program will be available at Mahindra University beginning in the academic year 2022–2023 and is open to graduates from all fields who are interested.

• There is no upper age limit specified on the official website of Mahindra University for the said postgraduate degree course.

Duration:

The duration of the LLB (Hons.) course launched from the academic session 2022-23 is 3 years (including internships) at Mahindra University.

Admission Process:

To seek admission to the 3-year LLB (Hons) postgraduate degree programme, candidates must first apply for the programme in an online mode. The application process steps are as follows:

• Apply online by completing the application form at www.mahindrauniversity.edu.in
• Scan your most recent photo and upload it while registering online.
• Observe the instructions for paying the Rs. 1000 registration and processing fee.
• Candidates can make payment in one of the following ways:

1. Through Credit Card, Debit Card, or Net Banking (via online mode)
2. Through Cash Payment
3. Through Demand Draft

• The applicant must make sure that the application portal is updated with all pertinent academic and entrance exam information.
• The applicant is responsible for making sure that all necessary scorecards and other papers are properly uploaded on the application portal.
• Branch preferences must be properly chosen inside the application portal.
• The applicant must make sure the application is correctly completed and submitted online.
• Candidates who are shortlisted after applying for the postgraduate degree course will have to mandatorily go through a panel interview which can be conducted either physically or virtually completely depending on the sole discretion of the Mahindra University admissions committee.
• Candidates who are selected after the panel interview can submit all the required documents and pay the prescribed admission fee to lock their seats for the programme. There will be no entrance exams required for admission to the 3-year LLB (Hons.) postgraduate degree course.

A few of the important points to note in relation to the 3-year LLB (Hons) degree programme at Mahindra University are as follows:

• As per university policies, applications that have been properly submitted and are eligible will be considered for admission.
• Students may be contacted if necessary for a physical or virtual counseling session.
• The University will send qualified applicants who have been shortlisted an admission offer via email along with all the essential instructions and information.
• While submitting an application does not ensure admission to the college, selection would be based on a panel's or selection committee's evaluation and the number of seats available at the time of allocation.

Graduate Insolvency Programme

The National Law Institute University, Bhopal will offer a two-year Graduate Insolvency Programme (GIP) for young and bright minds who have the required qualification in relevant disciplines to become Insolvency Professionals (IP), and this has been approved by the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI).

After passing the Limited Insolvency Examination, a GIP graduate will be qualified for registration as IP. Otherwise, a person must have at least 10 years of experience as a CA, CS, Cost Accountant, and/ or Advocate or 15 years of management experience in order to register as an IP after passing the Limited Insolvency Examination. Therefore, a GIP graduate saves 10 or 15 years to become Insolvency Professionals.

The Graduate Insolvency Program is the first of its type and will be advantageous for students seeking to enter and advance in the insolvency profession both in India and overseas. Additionally, GIP would offer chances for participants in insolvency, liquidation, bankruptcy, or turnaround processes to work as in-house counsels or consultants. For individuals who choose to pursue careers as teachers, researchers, or media professionals, GIP will be extremely valuable.

Eligibility Criteria:

The following are the eligibility qualifications for the NLIU’s Graduate Insolvency Programme’s GPET:

• Postgraduate degree in Economics with aggregate 50% marks
• Postgraduate degree in Finance with aggregate 50% marks
• Postgraduate Degree in Commerce with aggregate 50% marks
• Postgraduate Degree in Management with aggregate 50% marks
• Postgraduate Degree in Insolvency with aggregate 50% marks  
• Chartered Accountant with a valid Registration Number
• Advocate with a valid certificate of practice
• Cost Accountant with a valid Registration Number
• Company Secretary with a valid Registration Number
• BA LLB (Hons.)/ BA LLB/ LLB with aggregate 50% marks
• B.E/ B.Tech with aggregate 50% marks

The upper age limit for the aforementioned course will be as under:

• Candidates for the General category must be 28 years old as of January 1, 2022.
• 33 years old as of January 1, 2022, for candidates in the SC, ST, and PwD categories
• Candidates from the OBC (non-creamy layer) category must be 31 years old as of January 1, 2022.

Duration:

The NLIU’s Graduate Insolvency Programme (GIP) lasts for 24 months and includes the following:

• A 12-month intensive residential classroom programme;
• A 12-month practical internship programme at the cutting edge of practice

Admission Process:

For admission to the NLIU’s Graduate Insolvency Programme (GIP), candidates must note the following points mentioned below:

• Only online applications will be accepted; to submit an online application, go to www.admission.nliu.ac.in.
• Candidates must a non-refundable application fee of Rs. 3000
• Application fees must only be paid online using the steps outlined in the “Admission-2022: "Process to Deposit Fee Online" section of the www.nliu.ac.in website.
• The NLIU-GIPET 2022 test center (for both rounds) shall be notified.

Entrance Test Pattern and Selection Process:

With regards to the NLIU-GPET 2022 exam pattern and selection procedure, candidates must note the following points mentioned below:

• Multiple-choice and descriptive questions will both be included in the entrance exam.
• There will be two phases of the entrance test. A question paper including multiple-choice and descriptive questions will be given out during the first portion of the exam. The candidates that participated in the first phase will be invited for a group discussion and an individual interview during the second phase.
• Depending on the number of applications, the test center will be informed.
• Only English will be used to administer the entrance test.
• The time allotted for answering the questions on the paper cannot exceed 120 minutes.
• The NLIU GIPET 2022 exam will consist of two portions. 50 multiple-choice questions worth one mark each will be in Section-I. (four options with only one appropriate answer). There are two subjective-type questions in Section II, each worth 25 marks. Questions will be drawn from eight categories: knowledge of insolvency and bankruptcy, current events, general knowledge, aptitude for law and finance, logical reasoning, proficiency in general English, aptitude for math, and ethics.
• Both the group discussion and the individual interview will be worth 50 points each.
• A candidate who does not show up for phase I, the group discussion or the personal interview will not be included in the merit list for admission to GIP.
• Based on the performance in both phases, a combined merit list of applicants will be created, and the candidate will then be contacted for admission.

Note: The NLIU GIPET 2023 (both Phase I and Phase II) will be likely conducted in the month of June 2023. The application form for the NLIU GIPET entrance test will tentatively begin in the month of April 2023.
