Accredited with NAAC Grade ‘A’, Shivaji College is a constituent college of Delhi University. Since its inception in 1961, from a small structure, the college has come a long way to a campus spread over 10 acres. The infrastructure includes well-developed academic blocks with all the requisite facilities. The entire campus appears a minuscule ecosystem of all Indian states coming together with a diverse student body of more than 4 K. The ratio between Delhi-based students and interstate students is almost 50:50 and the gender representation is also healthy. 

The college is known for its academia, reputed faculty and exposure opportunities. It offers conventional undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Humanities, Science and Commerce. Students are exposed to various curricular and co-curricular activities such as quizzes, competitions, guest lectures, seminars, webinars, etc. Their life beyond academics is vibrant too! There is a whole lot list of student societies, cells and groups such as NCC, NSS, Eco-Club, Women’s Development cell, Alumni Club, Fashion Society (Bizzare), Cultural Society, Public Speaking Society (Dictum), Dance Society (footloose), Theatre Society (Vayam) and many other departmental societies. It’s a decent choice for students looking for conventional courses in physics, chemistry, zoology, botany, business economics, English, Hindi, Sanskrit, political science, history, geography, etc. Moreover, the student intake of the college is on the high side with more than 41 K students. However, the optimum student-to-faculty ratio, 20:1 represents a conducive learning environment at the college.

The campus of Shivaji College is large, lively and surrounded by lush greenery. The shade and breeze of trees help to beat the heat of Delhi! Also the pollution!

Shivaji College Delhi has a total of 41 classrooms, 19 laboratories well equipped with modern equipment, a large library, multipurpose seminar halls and a Hi-Tech auditorium according to the official data. The college doesn’t provide hostel facilities but there are various accommodation facilities available near the campus.

The college has the biggest sports ground in Delhi University with facilities for indoor and outdoor games and sports along with gym facilities, changing rooms, lockers and first-aid.

Sports Facilities:

The students on Quora appreciated the campus facilities and infrastructure. As per them, the college has decent facilities. The college canteen is rather small compared to the students' size but a nice place to enjoy delicacies. Other great hangout spots in the college are Bru Cofee Outlet and the famous Hawa Mahal. The campus is green and large encapsulating the latest facilities and well-maintained infrastructure. Students have shown positive feedback towards the amenities provided by the Shivaji College.

In 2023, the placement cell of Shivaji College Delhi conducted the three-day internship and placement fair known as Creschita’23 in April. More than 75 companies including Deloitte, Zomato, Tresvista, DE Shaw, etc visited the event. Around 200 students were provided job opportunities during the Shivaji College placement and internship event. As per the annual report of Shivaji College, the highest stipend for internships rose to Rs 60 K per month and the highest package for placement went up to Rs 22 LPA.

As per the available data, Shivaji College provides internships and placement opportunities to its students. However, the rate of placement is extremely low compared to the large batch of students. The students’ reviews on Quora revealed the truth about the low placements, especially for arts students. However, a large body of students didn’t participate in the placements. They either choose higher education, prepare for competitive examinations or do other stuff. So, there can be various reasons for low placements at Shivaji College but the efforts made by the college to provide opportunities are not less.

While the student population ratio looks highly impressive between regional students and interstate students, the presence of international students was extremely meagre. Moreover, the ratio of male to female students was found to be tilted towards male students. However, the presence of female students was better than that of various colleges in India. 

Shivaji College Faculty/College Administration & Management

Shivaji College is one of the underrated colleges of Delhi University. According to students, the faculty in most of the departments are highly experienced and alumni of top institutions such as IIT and IIM. The professors and HoDs organise competitions with other colleges to encourage students and foster healthy competition among them. The administration and management are highly supportive and all ears and try to resolve students’ queries promptly.

According to the Shivaji College Annual Report 2023, a high number of faculty members have participated in several projects under the Star College Scheme, Inspire Programme, etc. Apart from this, high engagement of faculty members and management in conducting seminars, training programmes, workshops, events and other activities was observed.
