Saveetha University Review and Verdict

Campus at a Glimpse

One becomes earnest and intrigued when he looks at the campus of Saveetha University, especially the engineering department, which is one of the 13 institutions spread across the 180+ acre campus.  Saveetha University was established in 2005 as a deemed to be university. Located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, the university is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and accredited by NAAC ‘A++’ grade. Saveetha University is spread over an area of 70 lakh sq. ft., housing a total of 13 institutions, 5000 staff, and 10,000 students. The university has a total of 1600+ faculties, which include 1200+ full-time faculties, 680+ Ph.D. faculties, and 240+ foreign faculties.

The university lives up to its hype and has a healthy student-to-faculty ratio of 1:6. The university has also signed MoUs with various institutions and universities, such as Apex Biotechnology Training & Research Institute, Anna University, Chiang Mai University, Dong-Pusan College, Erenazar Trust, etc.

You can become a part of this one of the most sought-after institutions in south India by getting admission at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. Some of the top Saveetha University courses offered include BE/ BTech, BDS, MTech, MBA, BBA, LLB, BSc, BArch, etc. The courses are offered in 14 streams, including Medical, Dental, Engineering, Pharmacy, Nursing, Management, Law, Liberal Arts & Science, Allied Health Sciences, Physiotherapy, Architecture and design, Physical Education, Occupational Therapy, and Hospitality. The courses are further subdivided into various disciplines such as CSE, ECE, EE, IoT, Robotics, etc.

However, a student’s journey here can change from wines and roses to one full of whine and neurosis. Beware of breaking any rule at Saveetha University, as maintaining discipline here is a serious business. If student reviews are to be believed, even for small amounts, the university imposes a fine of a minimum of INR 500. In some cases, they seize students’ ID cards and even suspend them. The university must understand that these strict regulations can be a double-edged sword. While they may look like a discretionary measure, it should also be remembered that too much of anything is harmful. Further, it could also negatively impact the rate of Saveetha University admission. Furthermore, there are no placements for civil engineering students.

Our Take

Saveetha University has an NIRF ranking of 27 in the overall category, which is commendable. The dentistry discipline stands at 1st place, which signifies that the university offers the best quality education for dental courses. Apart from this, the university is placed among the top 100 in all other NIRF ranking categories, which means the quality of education offered by Saveetha University is good. Having a 51 to 100 band score for innovations also signifies that the university is adjusting its curriculum as per the latest industry trends.

Academia & Batch Size

Saveetha University holds final examinations at the end of each semester. Students must pass the final examination in order to be eligible for the next semester. Students who fail the final examination are allowed to retake the examination during the next semester. It is also mandatory for students to have a 75% aggregate, or else they may be barred from taking the final exam. Saveetha University uses a letter-grading system under which grades are assigned as follows:

  • A: 90-100
  • B: 80-89
  • C: 70-79
  • D: 60-69
  • F: Below 60

Students must maintain a minimum overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 in order to remain in good academic standing. There are a total of 10,000 students enrolled in various Saveetha University courses. There are a total of 1600+ faculty members at the university. The faculty-to-student ratio at the university is 1:6, which means there are 6 students per faculty.

Our Take
The faculty-to-student ratio at Saveetha University is great. Since one faculty has only 6 students, this shows that the faculty members are able to focus individually on each student. It ensures that students are not left on their own. The 75% attendance rule is also justified, as students are more likely to learn and succeed if they attend classes regularly. The grading system is also fine, but many educational institutions have started avoiding F-grades, denoting failure. Hence, Saveetha University can also adopt the same thing in order to motivate and give students another chance.

Saveetha University Infrastructure

Classrooms

Saveetha University classrooms are spacious, well-lit, and well-equipped to support effective teaching and learning. All classrooms are air-conditioned and have comfortable seating for students. Classrooms at Saveetha University are also equipped with the latest teaching technology, including smart boards, projectors, and computers, according to some student reviews.

Library

The Central Library is the largest library at Saveetha University. It is located on the first floor of the circular block and houses a collection of over 300,000 books, journals, and other resources. The library also has a number of digital resources, including e-books, e-journals, and online databases.

Hostel

Saveetha University has separate hostels for boys and girls. The hostels are located on the campus, and some of the students have expressed that they are well-equipped to provide students with a comfortable and supportive living environment. The hostels at Saveetha University offer a variety of room types, including single rooms, double rooms, and triple rooms. However, if the review of students is to be believed, some students have complained that the food at the hostel is worse and every student needs to refill their mess card in order to get food in addition to the hostel fee, which costs them an extra INR 10,000.

Internet Connectivity

Saveetha University has a high-speed internet connection. If various reports are to be believed, the university also has a backup internet connection in case the connectivity by the primary provider breaks down. The university's entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled, with over 300 access points. As per the students' reviews, the internet can be readily accessed by all the students and faculty from anywhere on campus.

Labs

Saveetha University has a number of well-equipped laboratories to support the teaching and learning needs of its students in various fields of study. The laboratories are equipped with the latest equipment and software, and they are staffed by experienced and qualified faculty members. Some of the popular Saveetha University labs include engineering labs, dental labs, pharma labs, moot court, etc.

Clubs & Events

Saveetha University has a number of clubs and events that cater to the diverse interests of its students. These clubs and events provide students with the opportunity to learn new skills, meet new people, and have fun. Some of the popular clubs at Saveetha University include the coding club, math club, robotics club, etc. Moreover,  Saveetha University also hosts a number of events throughout the year. These events include sports fests, cultural events, technical fests, etc.

Our Take

One of the best things about Saveetha University classrooms is that they are designed to support a variety of teaching and learning styles. Instructors can use the technology in the classrooms to deliver lectures, show videos, and lead class discussions. Not only this, but students can use these high-end facilities to take notes, complete assignments, and work on projects. This provides an innovative learning edge for the students. Also, all of the libraries at Saveetha University are open to students and faculty during regular library hours. There is no partiality in terms of library or internet access for students or faculty, which is a plus point. However, one thing that leaves a big question mark on all the facilities is paying extra for food, and the quality is also not okay, as per the students. One can imagine how much does it pain in not getting a decent meal after paying. The university should investigate and take decisive action in this area.

Saveetha University Internships and Placements

As per last year’s Saveetha University placement statistics released, the highest package offered to the students is INR 12 to INR 14 lakhs per annum. On the other hand, the lowest salary offered to graduates is INR 4 to INR 6 lakhs per annum. Through campus placement, over 2500 students were offered top salaries by high-paying recruiters, including Cognizant, Bosch, Tata Consultancy Services, Capgemini, Accenture, Sutherland, etc.

Median Salary

Our Take

The highest package offered to graduates during Saveetha University placements is a remarkable feat for the university. The median salary for its graduates is relatively fine if we compare the average packages in the market. The institute's record-breaking campus placements are a testament to its focus on providing students with the skills, knowledge, and support they need to succeed in their careers. However, there have been reports of the lack of placements for civil engineering students. The university must look into this matter as soon as possible and ensure placements for all.

The university campus is spread over 180 acres and is home to a variety of academic and residential buildings. The university is known to provide students with a variety of facilities and amenities.

Saveetha University: Expectation vs Reality CLD Verdict!

Saveetha University meets the expectations of most students. Given the impeccable placements, students can expect to receive a high-quality education and be prepared for successful careers. However, students should also expect to be challenged academically and to grow intellectually. The university has a strong academic reputation, and its graduates are in high demand by employers. Saveetha University also offers a variety of extracurricular activities and opportunities for students to get involved in the community.

However, no university is perfect, and Saveetha University is no exception. Some students have complained about the high cost of tuition and the large class sizes. Other students have complained about the strict academic rules and regulations.
