Established in the year 2008 by the Government of India, IIM Shillong is one of the 20 prestigious institutes of management schooling in India. The institute stands at the seventh position in the line of the prestigious management institutions (IIMS) set up in the country. Accredited by EQUIS, IIM Shillong has managed to grab several titles and maintained good rankings year after year. Known for its diverse curriculum, national and international collaborations, and genius infrastructure, IIM Shillong is very popular and one of the top B-Schools in the country.

Therefore, with a little improvement in its approach to the development of learning and education, IIM Shillong is expected to bag a position under the top 20 business management institutions in India in the upcoming years. The institution has also been recognized by a few international organizations for its contribution to management education.

However, due to the location of the institution, there might be rare instances of poor internet connectivity, although there are no recorded instances of failed internet connection access yet. Additionally, any student or faculty member is eligible to use the institution's Wi-Fi access without any restrictions as long as they are inside the institution's campus.

Spread across a sprawling 10,000 square feet of space, the central library at IIM Shillong is well stocked with a variety of collections of reference books, general books, working papers, and other publications. Additionally, it hosts several video cassettes, compact discs, and other media for students to enjoy. Apart from the study materials, there is a separate reading space section dedicated to newspapers, magazines and journal articles reserved for those who do not wish to miss out on the daily dose of current information. Moreover, the central library at IIM Shillong also has specified e-resources on CMIE – Prowess, ISI-Emerging Markets, ProQuest, and EBSCO – Business Source Complete, powering their information from prestigious institutions such as the World Bank, and Harvard Business Review. The library is well equipped with various amenities as well, such as air conditioners, modern designed furniture and fittings, xerox machines, fax machines, computers and printers. The reading room of the library is designed with modern architecture to provide the readers with an inviting and peaceful environment, along with the backdrop of picturesque hills covered in pine trees.

Laboratories

IIM Shillong's laboratories are equipped with modern technologies, along with a decent seating capacity, and in-stock availability of laboratory equipment. There are separate laboratories for each discipline to cater for the demands of the different categories of students at once. Each laboratory is looked after by specified lab persons, to keep all the amenities available and safe for student's use. Moreover, all laboratories are air-conditioned and equipped with high-end servers.

Hostel

There are a total of 4 hostel units at the institution campus, each designed to separate male and female student accommodations. All hostel rooms are equipped with modern amenities such as air conditioners, LCD televisions, Wi-Fi, a tea-coffee facility, and other basic facilities for living. Canteen

The canteen space at IIM Shillong is large and spacious. Hot meals are served throughout the day, along with clean running water for drinking. Additionally, each hostel wing has a separate dining room for students to enjoy their staples without having to transport around the campus. The cafeteria space is fully air-conditioned, with modern furnishings and an automatic cooking system. The canteen kitchen has a huge food storage facility wherein hygiene and cleanliness are given special attention. The pricing of the food items available at IIM Shillong is also reasonable. 

Health Care Facility 

The IIM Shillong campus offers on-campus medical facilities for students and staff members as well. The on-campus medical unit is usually supported by in-house medical officers, nurses and visiting doctors.

Sports

The guest house is fully equipped with air conditioners, clean drinking water running throughout the day, food, and all other necessary amenities. They also have power supply backups in case of emergency power cuts.

The campus at IIM Shillong also sports a decent-sized gymnasium for students, equipped with all the necessary amenities for exercise and a healthy lifestyle. The gymnasium is fully air-conditioned and has a separate shower area as well. 

IIM Shillong also has separate student activity clubs to promote cultural extracurricular activities and administer a holistic development of students' learning experiences. The campus facilities at IIM Shillong have a wide variety of modern amenities equipped with technologies and facilities to enhance the student's experience of studying at the institution. While there is no complaint about the institution's infrastructure, some students are often of the opinion that the learning experience at IIM Shillong could be better only if the focus could be largely shifted from its infrastructural genius to the quality of education provided at the institution. 

IIM Shillong's Diversity & Representation

As per the data submitted to the NIRF, IIM Shillong mostly grants admission to students residing outside the state. Therefore, the question of diversity and representation at this institution could be answered as fairly decent. However, the institution is prominently lagging with the low percentage of women's admission appeals every year.

As per students' recorded responses, the internship opportunities for students studying at IIM Shillong are fairly decent. While many top companies are always on the lookout for interns to add to their valuable organizations, students of IIM Shillong securing internship opportunities is relatively higher than most Private institutions. According to this year's data submitted by IIM Shillong, a total of more than 67 companies participated and offered about 280 internship opportunities to students. The internship and placement opportunities at IIM Shillong are higher than many institutions combined in the entire Northeast India. The placement cell at this institution has successfully managed to provide noticeable professional guidance to the students. IIM Shillong does not hold back when it comes to offering the best placement opportunities to its students. 

Faculty & College Management/Administration

IIM Shillong mostly comprises a good number of well-educated professionals. The institution has a total number of 28 permanent faculty and approximately 40 visiting faculty. Therefore, the faculty fraternity at IIM Shillong consists of a mix of professors from institutes across the world, industry experts and practitioners. With the good reputation of the faculty members at IIM Shillong, there is no doubt that the student-faculty communication at the institution is considerably better than many institutions in the country. However, the institution is struggling to provide a satisfactory quality of education to its students due to the structured course curriculum.
