Campus at a Glimpse
Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, also known as SRTMUN, has been making a prominent presence in the academic world since its establishment in 1994. The university has earned a good reputation with recognition from the UGC and accreditation from NAAC with a 'B++' grade.
SRTMUN has a wide range of schools on its main campus additional ones on its Latur sub-campus, and another sub-campus at Parbhani. It also has the New Model Degree College at Hingoli and several research centres. With more than 300 colleges affiliated with it, SRTMUN offers 146 programmes to its student body of 1.63 lakh, covering fields like science and technology, humanities, commerce, management, and interdisciplinary studies.
SRTMUN campus itself is quite expansive, spread over 550 acres. It's well-equipped with a library, a computer centre, hostels, and a primary health centre. It also offers amenities like a bank, post office, Wi-Fi, parking, guest house, gym, and playground for students. Despite these facilities, the university's location is not convenient or well-connected to a metropolis, which makes commuting a challenge for students.
SRTMUN Academia & Batch Size
SRTMUN claims to offer degrees that are tailored to equip students with the necessary skills to meet job-oriented demands. The university offers a total of 146 courses in the fields of humanities, commerce and management, science and technology, and interdisciplinary studies. SRTMUN courses go beyond traditional classroom learning by incorporating study tours, field trips, and industry visits into the curriculum. Furthermore, SRTMUN provides opportunities for students to do their own research through assignments, projects, and dissertations. Students are encouraged to participate in research festivals like 'Avishkar' and 'Anveshan'.

Our Take
Looking at the data, it seems that several programmes at SRTMUN are in high demand, with the number of applications often exceeding the available seats. In fact, some SRTMUN courses have more students enrolled than the number of seats, reflecting the university's efforts to accommodate as many students as possible. However, the MCA programme, in particular, seems to have lower demand compared to others.
SRTMUN Infrastructure
Classrooms:
SRTMUN has spacious and well-furnished classrooms with multiple projectors and good ventilation.
Library:
The university has a central library called the Knowledge Resource Centre, which has a vast reading hall, research cubicles, and other amenities. The library has a collection of 72,562 books, 6,877 bound volumes of journals, and a digital library of 22,412 e-journals.
Wifi:
SRTMUN provides 24/7 WiFi facilities across the campus, ensuring seamless connectivity for students.
Hostels:
SRTMUN offers separate hostel facilities for male and female PG students on campus, with admission based strictly on merit. Currently, there are three hostels for male students with a capacity of 300, and a fourth one is under construction. For female students, there are four hostels with a total capacity of 344.
Activities:
SRTMUN provides various sports facilities, including a 10-lane athletic track, a spacious indoor sports hall for badminton, table-tennis, wrestling, boxing, and more. There's also a multipurpose gymnasium, a cricket ground, and a volleyball court.
Cafe/ Hang-out:
The university's inconvenient location offers limited hangout options for students.
Our Take
SRTMUN offers good facilities, such as well-equipped classrooms and a huge library full of books and e-journals. The WiFi is always available, and the hostels are pretty decent. But it's a bit of a bummer that there aren't many places to hang out nearby. So, the university can develop its own recreational space where students can gather after classes to meet their friends and relax.
SRTMUN Placements
SRTMUN has a Career Counselling and Placement Cell that organises seminars, workshops, and campus interviews. They also connect campus schools with industries and other organisations. But despite all this, the SRTMUN placement record is pretty average, and campus placements could be better. The placement report for 2023 is yet to be released on the official website. However, as per the NIRF report 2021, the SRTMUN placement statistics 2020 have been given below.
SRTMUN Placements - Course-wise
Course | Total eligible students | Total students placed | Median Salary |
---|---|---|---|
UG (3-Years) | 51 | 17 | Rs 2.52 LPA |
UG (4-Years) | 66 | 4 | Rs 1.5 LPA |
PG (2-Years) | 892 | 134 | Rs 1.9 LPA |
SRTMUN Top Recruiters
ITC | HCL | Reliance Jio |
---|---|---|
Oracle | Cognizant | Infosys |
Wipro | TCS | Genpact |
Our Take
Looking at the stats, we can clearly see that the SRTMUN placement rates are very low. The salary packages they offer are also not very high. For example, UG (4-year) students only received Rs 1.5 LPA as median salary during SRTMUN plcaments 2020.At the same time, only 4 out of 66 students got placed with the placement percentage standint at only 6%. It was not enough given today's job market demand.
SRTMUN Diversity & Representation
SRTMUN has a total student count of 1.63 lakh. As per the NIRF report, let's look into the demographic representation and gender distribution of the student population across different academic programmes.
SRTMUN Demographic Representation
UG (3-Years) | UG (4-Years) | PG (1-Year) | PG (2-Years) | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Home state | 19487 | 3559 | 23 | 7059 |
Outside state | 43 | 47 | 0 | 10 |
International | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
SRTMUN Gender Ratio
UG (3 Years) | UG (4-Years) | PG (1-Year) | PG (2-Years) | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Male | 10624 | 2389 | 14 | 3348 |
Female | 8897 | 1217 | 9 | 3721) |
Our take
It's evident from the demographic representation data that the majority of students come from their home state. As per the SRTMUN annual report, the university's location in the economically and environmentally challenged region of Marathwada makes it difficult to attract students from outside the region. The gender ratio data clearly shows a significant difference in gender distribution between undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. In undergraduate programmes, there is a noticeable gender imbalance, with more male students in both the 3-year and 4-year programmes. On the other hand, in postgraduate programmes, the gender ratio is relatively balanced.
SRTMUN Faculty
SRTMUN has 109 permanent teachers, of whom 101 have PhD degrees. The university claims to have a faculty team of quality researchers, with some of them having over 8000 citations, patents, national and international recognition, awards and projects worth 8.5 crores. The SRTMUN faculty is highly praised by students for their supportive nature and vast knowledge. Their qualifications and experience are evident in their teaching.
SRTMUN Location
SRTMUN is situated in Vishnupuri, a location that presents certain challenges. The nearest junction, Mudkhed, is 28 km away, and the City Bus Stand is 8 km away, making public transportation less accessible. The nearest airport, Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, is 14 km away. The distance from the state's metropolitan city and low connectivity make it challenging for students to commute.
Expectation vs Reality CollegeDekho Verdict
The campus is well-equipped with modern facilities, but its remote location poses commuting challenges. SRTMUN's curriculum is designed to meet industry demands, integrating traditional learning with practical experiences like field trips and industry visits. Despite the high demand for its courses, SRTMUN manages to accommodate more students than available seats, ensuring that deserving candidates get the chance to pursue their desired stream. The faculty is highly praised for their knowledge and supportive nature. The infrastructure is commendable, but the lack of nearby hangout spots is a downside. The placement record is also quite average, with scope for improvement. Another area of concern is that the student body lacks diversity, with most students hailing from the home state.
