Tips to Score Good Marks in 12th Commerce Boards

Accountancy, Economics, and Business Studies are the main subjects of Commerce. Students need to have a good command of each of the subjects.

Accountancy

Everybody knows that Accountancy is the core subject in the Commerce stream. So, it is necessary for students to have a clear understanding of the concepts of Accountancy. With concepts on your tips, it is possible for students to attempt questions in exams with perfection. There are certain rules that students should follow, such as the narration should always be provided below the Journal Entry. Balance Sheet should be drawn in a correct format and separate working notes should be given with the answer wherever required.

Essential Tips for Studying Accountancy

  1. Journal Entry concepts should be clear. When you can journalize the transactions, it becomes easy to solve all questions.
  2. Company Accounts, Cash Flow Statements, and Partnership firms are the important chapters that carry around 60% of the weightage in your paper.
  3. Try to understand the formula instead of learning them.
  4. Besides understanding the concept, the correct format of the Balance sheet, Trial Balance, and Ledger also fetch good marks. So ensure you present your answer in the proper format either through Ledger Accounts, Balance Sheet, or Journals.
  5. Accountancy needs good practice. Hence, it is important for you to solve as many questions as possible in a day. For better practise, it is better to solve previous year question papers instead of sticking to the syllabus or reference books.
  6. Further, students should pay equal attention to the practical and theory part of Accounts.
  7. The answers must be supported by proper working notes wherever required.

Business Studies

Many students consider Business Studies as a scoring paper. In this subject, it is easy to understand the concepts and explain them in simple words. Students simply have to pay more attention to the presentation of this paper.

Tips for Studying Business Studies –

  1. Business Studies is a theory paper. It needs proper and timely revision to remember topics. If there is a long gap, students might start forgetting the concepts and theory.
  2. While revising, you must try to cover a maximum number of chapters at the same time. It would be better to prepare a study plan where you cover up atleast two to three chapters in a day. There are chances that you forget some points of the first chapter when moving to the third or fourth chapter. Hence, when revising all chapters frequently, you can recal the topics.
  3. When answering the Business Studies question papers, students will be asked about their opinions, such as “Do you agree with this statement……”. Students should be prepared to answer these questions by presenting their thoughts. Such case studies can always be high scoring. So, practice these questions and aim for a good score.
  4. Prepare short notes that will help you revise the syllabus even a day before the exam. Students might find it difficult to always go through the books. Hence, preparing short notes can be beneficial for students to revise the entire syllabus in very less time.
  5. Practice writing your answers in bullet points because examiners might avoid reading the lengthy paragraphs. Due to this, students may not be able to score full marks.
  6. Use the mnemonics to learn the headings or points.

Economics

Some students find Economics to be a difficult subject due to the vast syllabus. Well, the syllabus seems to be lengthy only when they try to cover syllabus from multiple books. It is suggested that students should stick with the NCERT Class 12th Economics book. It has sufficient details to make you understand the topic. Moreover, students will find sufficient time to complete the syllabus.

The subject requires enhanced Analytical and Logical Reasoning skills. Learning through the prescribed books will provide a clear understanding of the topics. With concepts on your tips, students can explain the answers and solve the questions easily.

Tips for Studying Economics –

  1. Handwritten notes for each of the topics can help students to easily understand and revise each chapter.
  2. Students need to understand various diagrams in both Macro and Micro Economics. Regularly draw the diagram to practice all topics. Besides this, make the concepts clear to neatly label the diagrams. The unlabelled diagrams won’t fetch any marks.
  3. There are a lot of questions related to differences between concepts and terms in Economics. Hence, you should possess a good understanding of the differences very well and present them through a tabular form to make the difference easily visible.
  4. Do not forget to practice previous year question papers as they can help students to identify the pattern of questions. This prepares them to provide accurate answers to questions in a limited duration.
  5. A day before the exam, simply focus on the concepts and theories, instead of solving the question papers, and going through various types of questions.
