AILET LLM 2023 Exam Pattern

The National Law University, Delhi, has altered the AILET LL.M exam format for the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) PG programme for the upcoming academic year 2023 - 24. The AILET LLM question paper will now include both objective and subjective questions, and the number of questions as per the format is 50 MCQs plus 10 subjective.

Knowing the AILET 2023 exam pattern will give the aspirant a solid concept of the structure of the questions paper, the number of questions, the number of sections, the marking scheme, and other important details. This will inevitably aid them in being better prepared for the exam.

NLU Delhi administers the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) for entry to undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), and doctorate (PhD) level law programmes. This is a national-level entrance test for enrollment in law courses only at NLU Delhi. AILET LL.M 2023 Exam Pattern

As previously stated, the university has revised the exam format for the AILET PG Exam 2023. The new Master of Law (LL.M) paper pattern will be split into two sections - Section A and Section B.

Section A is further divided into two parts - 

  • Part 1: English Grammar
  • Part 2: Legal Reasoning

Section A comprises 50 multiple-choice questions worth 75 marks. In addition, each incorrectly answered question in section A will be penalised 0.25 points. Section B consists of eight to ten descriptive questions from various areas of law. However, students will only be required to answer two descriptive questions.

The aspirants will have 90 minutes to finish both sections.

AILET LL.M 2023 Marking Scheme

Only Section A of the AILET PG test carries negative grading system. If the applicants submit an incorrect response, they will lose 0.25. The score will increase by one mark for each correct response. Check out the AILET 2023 LLM marking scheme below -

AILET LL.M 2023 Tie-Breaking Procedure

The following process would be utilised in compiling the final merit list if two aspirants had identical scores on the All India Law Entrance Test for PG programmes.

  • Older contenders will be given a higher priority.
  • If scores are still the same, officials will use an automated random draw to determine who makes it to the higher rank in the merit list.

AILET LL.M 2023 Syllabus

Along with the test notification, the National Law University, Delhi has issued the All India Law Entrance Test 2023 syllabus. The AILET test syllabus for the BA LL.B and LL.M programmes had been updated by the exam authority in the preceding term, that is for the academic year 2022 - 23. A similar pattern has been followed by NLU Delhi for the 2023 -24 session.

The AILET BA LL.B question paper currently consists of three sections rather than five. This is due to the removal of the Legal Aptitude and Elementary Mathematics sections from the AILET BA LLB 2022 test paper. 

Meanwhile, the AILET LL.M paper is now divided into two sections: Section A, which contains objective type questions from English Language and Legal Reasoning and is worth 75 points, and Section B, which contains descriptive type questions from core law courses and is also worth 75 points.

Changes in AILET LL.M 2023 Syllabus

According to the exam authority, the following amendments have been made to the AILET LL.M question paper:

  • Section A and Section B will be divided into two parts.
  • Section A will consist of multiple-choice questions, whereas Section B will be descriptive.
  • Section A will be divided into two parts: Part A - English language (25 questions; 25 marks) and Part B - Legal reasoning (25 questions; 50 marks).
  • Section B will include eight to ten questions from various areas of law and candidates must answer two questions out of them (25 marks each).
  • Section B evaluation - NLU Delhi will create a shortlist of candidates based on Section A scores. The number of candidates on the list will be three times the number of open seats in each category. Section B will only be considered for candidates who have been shortlist based on Section A scores.
  • AILET 2022 Final Merit Rank - This will be computed using Sections A and B scores.

Section A will include 25 English Language questions and 25 Legal Reasoning questions. Each correct answer in the English section is worth one mark, and each correct answer in the Legal Reasoning section is worth two marks. For each inaccurately answered question in Section A, 0.25 points will be subtracted.
