NLAT Syllabus

The National Law Aptitude Test or NLAT 2020 is an entrance exam introduced by NLSIU, Bangalore for admission to BA LLB and LLM programmes. Due to the nation-wide outbreak of coronavirus pandemic and its impact on the CLAT exam, National Law School of India University, Bangalore decided to conduct its own separate exam in order to elude a ‘Zero Year’. NLAT 2020 will be conducted in three sessions and the authorities will use a normalisation procedure to score candidates.

NLSIU, Bangalore has released a notification mentioning the NLAT syllabus for UG as well as PG programme. Students are advised to stick to the prescribed syllabus of NLAT in order to score well in the exam. The National Law Aptitude Test will be conducted in an online mode across the country, at the respective location of the candidate. The syllabus of NLAT is very similar to the CLAT Syllabus 2020. Exam Pattern of NLAT 2020

It is important to be familiar with the exam pattern of NLAT in order to ace the entrance exam. Mentioned below are the course-wise details of NLAT exam pattern.

Exam Pattern for BA LLB: The NLAT Exam pattern 2020 is specified below.

  • The question paper of BA LLB programme will consist of four General Comprehension passages 

  • Each General Comprehension passage will be followed by ten questions. Candidates will have to answer the mentioned question by referring to the corresponding passage. The National Law Aptitude Test for BA LLB will comprise a total of forty questions with each carrying two marks.

  • The length of each General Comprehension passage will be similar, i.e., around 500 words.

  • The order of difficulty of NLAT 2020 will be equivalent to the difficulty level of the Mock CLAT 2020 UG papers.

  • The ten questions that accompany each General Comprehension passage will consist of two questions each from the five subjects.

Exam Pattern for LLM: LLM Exam Pattern for NLAT 2020 is defined through the pointers mentioned below.

  • The NLAT 2020 for LLM will have three passages that will be extracted from the judgments of the Supreme Court in prominent cases.

  • Each passage will be followed by ten questions that the candidates will have to attempt as per the information available in the passage.

  • Also, the understanding and knowledge of the case as a whole, and of related matters should be kept in mind while answering the question.

  • The total questions in NLAT 2020 will be 30 and each question will carry 2 marks.

Hello Sakshi,

To secure admission to the B.A LLB programme at Swami Vivekananda Law College, you must have passed 10+2 with at least 45% marks (SC/ ST category candidates - 40%). The programme is 5 years long and divided into 10 semesters. It has an intake of 120 students. The programme is affiliated to CCS University, Meerut and approved by the Bar Council of India (BCI).
