WBJEE Ranking System 2024

The ranking system of WBJEE 2024 can be divided into two categories – General Merit Rank (GMR) and Pharmacy Merit Rank (PMR). A clear distinction in both of these ranking systems has been differentiated below. Candidates are requested to check the ranking system procedures for better clarity.

What is WBJEE 2024 GMR?

  • GMR stands for General Merit Rank (GMR) in WBJEE 2024.
  • The GMR rank is allocated on the basis of marks scored by candidates in Paper 1 & 2 (Mathematics, Physics & Chemistry).
  • The exam is conducted for 200 marks, and the ranking process starts in descending order.
  • For example, the highest marks of a candidate in both Paper 1 & 2 is 199, he/ she will be allocated Rank 1. On the other hand, if the lowest mark is 10 in Paper 1 & 2, the candidate will be allocated the last rank. Usually, the last rank goes up to 80,000 every year.

WBJEE 2024 GMR Tie-Breaking Policy

There are certain cases where one or two candidates secure the same marks in the entrance exam. For example, if Candidate A scores 199 in WBJEE and Candidate B also scores 199, the rank will be allocated as per the following tie-breaking rules.

Rule 1

A Candidate with fewer negative marks in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry will be given top preference in the rank list.

Rule 2

If the tie does not break with the above rule, the candidate with more positive marks in Mathematics and Physics shall be given top preference in the rank list.

Rule 3

If the tie does not resolve with the above rules, candidates with more positive marks in Mathematics & Chemistry shall be given top preference in the rank list.

Rule 5

If the tie still persists after applying the above rules, candidates with less negative marks in Mathematics and Physics shall be given top preference in the rank list.

Rule 4

If the tie does not break after applying the above rules, the candidate with more positive marks for 2 mark questions in Physics shall be given top preference in the rank list.

Rule 5

If the tie does not resolve after applying the above rules, the candidate with more positive marks for 2 mark questions in Chemistry shall be given top preference in the rank list.

Rule 6

If the tie still persists after applying the above rules, the candidate with less negative marks for 2 marks in Mathematics shall be given preference in the rank list.

Rule 7

If the tie still exists after applying the above rules, the candidate with less negative marks in Physics 2 mark questions shall be given preference in the rank list.

Rule 8

If the tie does not break after applying all the above rules, the candidate who is older in age shall be given top preference in the rank list.

WBJEE 2024 PMR

  • PMR stands for Pharmacy Merit Rank in WBJEE 2024
  • The PMR rank is allocated to candidates on the basis of marks scored in Paper 2 (Physics & Chemistry) of WBJEE 2024
  • The exam is conducted for 100 marks, and the ranking process starts from the descending order
  • For example, if the highest mark in WBJEE Paper 2 is 99, the candidate securing these marks will be allocated Rank 1. On the other hand, if the lowest mark in the same paper is 5, the respective candidate will be allocated the last rank
  • Usually, the PMR last rank goes up to 50,000 every year

WBJEE 2024 PMR Tie-Breaking Policy

There are certain cases where two candidates secure the same marks in WBJEE 2024. In such cases, the PMR rank will be allocated by applying the tie-breaking rules which has been discussed in the table below –

Rule 1

A Candidate with fewer negative marks in Physics and Chemistry shall be given top preference in the rank list.

Rule 2

If the tie does not break with the above rule, the candidate with more positive marks in Chemistry shall be given top preference in the rank list.

Rule 3

If the tie still persists after applying the above rules, the candidate with less negative marks in Chemistry shall be given top preference in the rank list.

Rule 4

If the tie does not break after applying the above rules, the candidate with more positive marks in 2 mark questions of Chemistry shall be given top preference in the rank list.

Rule 5

If the tie still exists after applying the rule rules, the candidate with less negative marks in 2 mark questions of Chemistry shall be given top preference in the rank list.

Rule 6

If the tie does not resolve with the above rules, the candidate with more positive marks in 2 mark questions of Physics shall be given top preference in the rank list.

Rule 7

If the tie still exists, the candidate with less negative marks in 2 mark questions of Physics shall be given top preference in the rank list.

Rule 8

If the tie does not break after applying all the above rules, the candidate who is older in age shall be given top preference in the rank list.

As there is negative marking in the WBJEE 2024 exam, candidates are advised to answer the questions only if he/she is 100% sure about the answer so that the negative marks can be avoided.

Final Tie Breaking Criteria for GMR and PMR

In case the tie still exists even after applying the tie-breaking criteria, the ties will be broken using the candidates' dates of birth (DOB), with the elder candidate receiving priority over the younger one. Following the release of the WBJEE merit list  2024, counselling sessions are held depending on the exam rankings attained by applicants.

Dear student,

The Siliguri Government Polytechnic admission to various polytechnic courses is based on entrance examination. The entrance examination for regular admission to this college is the Joint Entrance Exam for Polytechnics (JEXPO), and for lateral entry admission, students need to qualify for the Vocational Lateral Entry Test (VOCLET) exam. The last date for application for JEXPO/VOCLET was May 20, 2023. The Siliguri Government Polytechnic admission process for 2023 has ended, and you need to wait for the JEXPO/VOCLET application dates in 2024.
