WBJEE 2025 Ranking System: The ranking system of WBJEE 2025 can be divided into two categories – General Merit Rank (GMR) and Pharmacy Merit Rank (PMR). The West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam Board (WBJEEB) will release a merit list based on the performance of the students in the WBJEE 2025 exam . The board will declare two rank lists, ie, General Merit Rank (GMR) and Pharmacy Merit Rank (PMR). While the applicants featuring in GMR will be eligible to be admitted to B.Tech and B.Pharm courses, PMR students can only be admitted to B.Pharm courses across West Bengal.
Because more than a lakh individuals take the WBJEE each year, it is possible for two or more students to receive the same score. Therefore, WBJEEB provides tie-breaking rules to put into place in certain circumstances to break the deadlock. On this page, you can find all the information on the WBJEE 2025 ranking system, the tie-breaking procedure for GMR, and PMR, and steps to check the WBJEE 2025 merit list.

What is GMR in WBJEE 2025?
GMR stands for General Merit Rank (GMR) in WBJEE 2025. The GMR rank is allocated on the basis of marks scored by students in Paper 1 & 2 (Mathematics, Physics & Chemistry). The exam is conducted for a total of 200 marks, and the ranks will be published in descending order. For example, if the highest mark of a student in both Paper 1 & 2 is 199, they will be allocated Rank 1. On the other hand, if the lowest mark is 10 in papers 1 & 2, the participant will be allocated the last rank. Usually, the last rank goes up to 80,000 every year. The following are important points about GMR in WBJEE 2025:
1. The admission to Engineering and Architecture courses across West Bengal courses through WBJEE including Pharmacy courses at Jadavpur University will be based only on the GMR rank obtained in the WBJEE 2025 merit list.
2. A separate category-based merit list will be published for category-wise admissions.
3. Sequencing during the counseling and admission process will only be based on the GMR rankings.

There are certain cases where one or two students secure the same marks in the entrance exam. For example, if student A scores 199 in WBJEE and student B also scores 199, the rank will be allocated as per the following tie-breaking rules.
Rule 1 | A student with fewer negative marks in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry will be given top preference in the rank list. |
---|---|
Rule 2 | If the tie does not break with the above rule, the student with more positive marks in Mathematics and Physics shall be given top preference in the rank list. |
Rule 3 | If the tie does not resolve with the above rules, the student with more positive marks in Mathematics & Chemistry shall be given top preference in the rank list. |
Rule 5 | If the tie still persists after applying the above rules, students with less negative marks in Mathematics and Physics shall be given top preference in the rank list. |
Rule 4 | If the tie does not break after applying the above rules, the student with more positive marks for 2 mark questions in Physics shall be given top preference in the rank list. |
Rule 5 | If the tie does not resolve after applying the above rules, the student with more positive marks for 2 mark questions in Chemistry shall be given top preference in the rank list. |
Rule 6 | If the tie persists after applying the above rules, the student with fewer negative marks for 2 marks in Mathematics shall be given preference in the rank list. |
Rule 7 | If the tie still exists after applying the above rules, the student with fewer negative marks in Physics 2 mark questions shall be given preference in the rank list. |
Rule 8 | If the tie does not break after applying all the above rules, the older student shall be given top preference in the rank list. |
What is PMR in WBJEE 2025?
PMR in WBJEE 2025 stands for Pharmacy Merit Rank. The PMR rank is allocated to students based on marks scored in Paper 2 (Physics & Chemistry) of WBJEE 2025. The exam is conducted for 100 marks, and the ranks are awarded in descending order. For example, if the highest mark in WBJEE Paper 2 is 99, the student securing these marks will be allocated Rank 1. On the other hand, if the lowest mark in the same paper is 5, the respective student will be allocated the last rank. Usually, the PMR rank goes up to 50,000 every year. Final Tie-Breaking Criteria for GMR and PMR in WBJEE 2025
In case the tie still exists even after applying the tie-breaking criteria, the ties will be broken using the candidates' dates of birth (DOB), with the elder candidate receiving priority over the younger one. Following the release of the WBJEE merit list 2025, counseling sessions are held depending on the exam rankings attained by applicants.
Category Rank in WBJEE 2025
Along with GMR and PMR ranks, WBJEEB will also release separate category-wise WBJEE GMR and PMR rankings for reserved applicants. The students are required to specify their categories at the time of filling out the WBJEE 2025 application form, however, the verifications are done during the counseling process by the respective colleges. If a student is unable to verify their category claims their candidature will be cancelled and the student will be considered as a general applicant.
