WBJEEB prepares General Merit Rank (GMR) and Pharmacy Merit Rank (PMR) on the basis of WBJEE score for admission in B.Tech and B.Pharm. Check the detailed WBJEE 2021 ranking system and tie-breaking policy.

WBJEE Ranking System – GMR, PMR, Tie-Breaking Policy

WBJEE Ranking System: Along with the WBJEE 2021 result, West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam Board (WBJEEB) allocates a rank to candidates based on his/her performance in the entrance exam. For the counselling process, the board declares two rank lists, i.e., General Merit Rank (GMR) and Pharmacy Merit Rank (PMR). While candidates featuring in GMR are eligible to take admission in B.Tech and B.Pharm, PMR candidates can only take admission in B.Pharm. As more than one lakh candidates appear for WBJEE every year, there are chances where two or more candidates secure the same marks. In such cases, a tie-breaking policy comes into effect to resolve the tie. All the details with regard to WBJEE 2021 ranking system and tie-breaking policy can be checked on this page.

WBJEE 2021 Ranking System

The ranking system of WBJEE can be divided into two categories – GMR and PMR. The detailed GMR and PMR process is as follows –

WBJEE 2021 GMR

  • GMR stands for General Merit Rank (GMR) in WBJEE.
  • The GMR rank is allocated on the basis of marks scored by candidates in Paper 1 & 2 (Mathematics, Physics & Chemistry).
  • The exam is conducted for 200 marks, and the ranking process starts in descending order.
  • For example, the highest marks of a candidate in both Paper 1 & 2 is 199, he/ she will be allocated Rank 1. On the other hand, if the lowest mark is 10 in Paper 1 & 2, the candidate will be allocated the last rank. Usually, the last rank goes up to 80,000 every year.

WBJEE 2021 GMR Tie-Breaking Policy

There are certain cases where one or two candidates secure the same marks in the entrance exam. For example, if Candidate A scores 199 in WBJEE and Candidate B also scores 199, the rank will be allocated as per the following tie-breaking rules.

Rule 1

A Candidate with less negative marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry will be given top preference in the rank list.

Rule 2

If the tie does not break with the above rule, the candidate with more positive marks in Mathematics and Physics shall be given top preference in the rank list.

Rule 3

If the tie does not resolve with the above rules, candidates with more positive marks in Mathematics & Chemistry shall be given top preference in the rank list.

Rule 5

If the tie still persists after applying the above rules, candidates with less negative marks in Mathematics and Physics shall be given top preference in the rank list.

Rule 4

If the tie does not break after applying the above rules, the candidate with more positive marks for 2 mark questions in Physics shall be given top preference in the rank list.

Rule 5

If the tie does not resolve after applying the above rules, the candidate with more positive marks for 2 mark questions in Chemistry shall be given top preference in the rank list.

Rule 6

If the tie still persists after applying the above rules, the candidate with less negative marks for 2 marks in Mathematics shall be given preference in the rank list.

Rule 7

If the tie still exists after applying the above rules, the candidate with less negative marks in Physics 2 mark questions shall be given preference in the rank list.

Rule 8

If the tie does not break after applying all the above rules, the candidate who is older in age shall be given top preference in the rank list.

WBJEE 2021 PMR

  • PMR stands for Pharmacy Merit Rank in WBJEE
  • The PMR rank is allocated to candidates on the basis of marks scored in Paper 2 (Physics & Chemistry) of WBJEE
  • The exam is conducted for 100 marks, and the ranking process starts from the descending order
  • For example, if the highest mark in WBJEE Paper 2 is 99, the candidate securing these marks will be allocated Rank 1. On the other hand, if the lowest mark in the same paper is 5, the respective candidate will be allocated the last rank.
  • Usually, the PMR last rank goes up to 50,000 every year

WBJEE 2021 PMR Tie-Breaking Policy

There are certain cases where two candidates secure the same marks. In such cases, the PMR rank will be allocated by applying the following tie-breaking rules –

Rule 1

A Candidate with less negative marks in Physics and Chemistry shall be given top preference in the rank list.

Rule 2

If the tie does not break with the above rule, the candidate with more positive marks in Chemistry shall be given top preference in the rank list.

Rule 3

If the tie still persists after applying the above rules, the candidate with less negative marks in Chemistry shall be given top preference in the rank list.

Rule 4

If the tie does not break after applying the above rules, the candidate with more positive marks in 2 mark questions of Chemistry shall be given top preference in the rank list.

Rule 5

If the tie still exists after applying the rule rules, the candidate with less negative marks in 2 mark questions of Chemistry shall be given top preference in the rank list.

Rule 6

If the tie does not resolve with the above rules, the candidate with more positive marks in 2 mark questions of Physics shall be given top preference in the rank list.

Rule 7

If the tie still exists, the candidate with less negative marks in 2 mark questions of Physics shall be given top preference in the rank list.

Rule 8

If the tie does not break after applying all the above rules, the candidate who is older in age shall be given top preference in the rank list.
