JoSAA Counselling 2024 Choice Filling Tips

The JoSAA counselling process is crucial for students seeking admission to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other participating institutions. Here are some tips to fill choices in JoSAA counselling 2024.

  • Research and Prioritise: Candidates must begin by thoroughly researching their preferred institutes, their programs, courses, and the previous year's opening and closing ranks. They must note to prioritise the institutes based on their preferences, including location, specialisation, reputation, and any other factors that matter to students
  • Use Mock Seat Allocation: JoSAA will release the results for mock seat allocation based on information from the preceding year. Candidates must use this round to analyse the possible outcomes of their decisions and, if necessary, make any necessary revisions
  • Set Realistic Goals: While it's important to aim high, it's equally essential to set realistic goals. Every student must first consider their JEE Main and JEE Advanced ranks, and make choices that align with their expected performance
  • Understand the Quota System: Students while marking their choices must take into account the different quotas available, such as the All India Quota (AIQ), Home State Quota, Other State Quota and more. It is important for candidates to familiarise themselves with the reservation policies and their impact on seat allocation
  • Create a List: Every student must compile a comprehensive list of all the institutes and programs they are interested in. Next, it is strategically crucial to categorise them into reach, moderate, and safety options based on their chances of securing admission
  • Fill Choices Strategically: Experts recommend that every candidate must start by filling in their top preferences, including their dream institutes/colleges and preferred branches. Moreover, they can follow it up with a mix of moderate and safety options. It is important to remember to keep a backup plan by including institutes with higher opening ranks as well
  • Regularly Update and Reassess:  As the counselling process advances, periodically examine the seats that are still available, the opening and closing ranks, and make any required adjustments to your selections. Candidates must make it a point to stay informed about any updates or changes announced by JoSAA.
