What is JoSAA Seat Allotment 2023?

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) allotted seats to the candidates who have qualified JEE Advanced or JEE Main examination for admission in IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. Seats are allocated to the candidates on the basis of their ranks, choices filled by them and the availability of seats at the participating colleges.

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority will conduct the six rounds of JoSAA seat allotment. The selection will be based on the qualifications of the candidates, their category, their chosen preferences, and the availability of seats. The provisional seat assignment letter and an e-challan to pay the seat acceptance fee must be downloaded by candidates who will be allotted seats.

How to View JoSAA Seat Allotment 2023?

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority will release the institute-wise seat allotment result after each round and opening and closing ranks on its official website. Candidates have to log in with Roll No and Password and view his/her seat allocation result. Once the seats are allotted by the authority, the candidates will have to select any one of the following options:

Freeze

Candidates who are satisfied with their allotted seats will select the freeze option. These candidates will confirm their seats after paying the seat acceptance fee via e-challan or net banking. Such candidates are not eligible to take part in the subsequent rounds of counselling

Float

If candidates are not allocated seats as per their first option, they’ll have to choose the “Float” option and wait for better allotment. The seat allocated in the existing round will not be canceled in such cases until the candidate is allocated a new seat

Slide

Candidates can select the ‘Slide’ option if they don’t get the course as per their first choice in the respective institute. Candidates can wait for a better seat allotment via this option. The seat allocated in the existing round will not be cancelled in such cases until the candidate gets a better allotment.

Do’s and Don’ts After JoSAA Seat Allotment

The JoSAA seat allocation process follows a strict timeline. The entire process will be online and computer-operated. There are a few things that candidates should keep in mind before going forward with the admission process. Several intelligent candidates have missed out on seats at top engineering colleges in the past years simply because they did not understand the entire process.

Do’s After JoSAA Seat Allotment

As mentioned above after the seat allotment result is announced candidates are provided with three options-

  • Freeze - The candidate is content with the seat he/she has been allocated and decides not to take part in any further JoSAA counselling sessions in 2023
  • Float - The candidate is happy with his or her current seat but would like to be considered for other institutes in future rounds of JoSAA seat distribution
  • Slide - The candidate accepts the allocated seat but is also open to being enrolled in a better-preferred course at the same institute. Candidates have to choose the option very carefully as it is a major part of the entire JoSAA Counselling Process

Accept The Seat

If a candidate is satisfied with the current seat, institute and course that has been allotted to him or her then they should choose to freeze and accept the seat. By doing so they are officially out of the further counselling process and will be provided admission to the college which they have been allotted after paying the fees and getting the documents verified. Download the provisional seat allotment letter for future use.

Uploading the Documents

The students have to upload scanned copies of the required documents as per the guidelines on the JoSSA portal after accepting their seats.

It should be noted that candidates will have to produce all the documents as original hard copies when they report to the college for the document verification process

Payment of Fees

The next thing to do after accepting or freezing the allotted seat is paying the seat acceptance fees. Candidates who accept the seat need to use an e-challan or SBI Net Banking to pay the seat acceptance fee. Candidates just need to pay the seat acceptance fees, which will be deducted from the admission fee because each institute has a different admission fee.

Seat Acceptance Fee

Given below in the table are the details of the acceptance fees that students have to pay-

Category

Fee

General

Rs. 35,000

Reserved

Rs. 15,000

Reporting And Document Verification

After the document uploading process candidates should report to the reporting centre on the specified date without fail along with the original documents. It is advised to candidates to keep all the necessary documents ready before reporting.

Dual Reporting for Document Verification

  • If an applicant chooses the float option while taking a seat in an IIT in one round and an NIT/IIIT/GFTI in the next, he or she will be asked to go to the institute again for document verification.
  • A candidate should return to the institute for document verification if they are offered a seat in an NIT, IIEST, IIIT (Triple-I-T), or Other-GFTI in one round and an IIT in a later round.
  • Candidates will not be accepted for the reserved seats if they do not show up again for document verification. Also, a candidate will not be permitted to take part in any additional rounds of seat allocation.

If a candidate has not chosen freeze or float as their option then they can choose the slide option to upgrade their course. By doing so they will have to report and complete both online and offline reporting and wait for a course upgrade in the subsequent rounds of allotment.

Don’ts After JoSAA Seat Allotment

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority has provided most of the information on what has to be done after the JoSAA 2023 Seat Allotment Results have been released. But Candidates still get confused because the admission process through JoSAA can be a little confusing. And in the past few years, many brilliant students have missed their seats at top engineering colleges because of not fully understanding the process. Here in this section, we have accumulated a few mistakes that should be avoided at any cost during the admission process-

Do not delay in paying the acceptance fees

After the JoSAA 2023 seat allotment result is out candidates have to do online reporting which includes paying acceptance fees. If the candidate misses out on paying the acceptance fees, he/she will not be allowed to further participate in any of the subsequent seat allotment rounds. They will be out of the entire process.

Do not report to the wrong institution

Candidates need to be very careful while reporting to their respective institutes for reporting and document verification. Check and confirm the address of the institute before going as reporting to the wrong centre can result in sabotaging their seat and admission.

Do not choose the incorrect acceptance option

Make sure you choose the option best suited to you from all the three options- freeze, float and slide, provided during acceptance of the JoSAA 2023 seat allotment so that the process of admission goes on smoothly further. Choosing the wrong option may lead to you not getting into your desired college or desired stream.

Do not wait for the last moment to get documents ready

Your reserved seat will be canceled if you provide invalid certificates. Therefore, avoid waiting until the last minute to obtain your original caste and income certificates. When enrolling for seat allocation, upload the PDFs of all your certificates. For OBC-NCL/EWS category candidates, the certificate must be granted on or after April 1, 2023.

Do not change your registered mobile number or email id

It has so happened in the past that students got rejected of the seat allotment process because they did not have their registered mobile n or email Id with them at the time of the seat allotment process.

Do not share your login details

Changes made to your account are strictly your responsibility. An applicant from Punjab lost his chance at an IIT seat last year when his friend, with whom he had shared his password and OTP, suddenly changed his choices. Therefore, don't disclose your login information to your friends, relatives, or family.
