Wondering what happens when two candidates score the same on their CEED or UCEED design entrance exams? Well, that is when the tie-breaker policy kicks in. Let us delve into what this tie-breaker policy entails for both CEED and UCEED exams in 2024.
CEED & UCEED Tie-Breaker Policy

CEED & UCEED Tie-Breaker Policy 2024: If you have recently taken the CEED & UCEED entrance exams, you are likely eagerly awaiting the results. But before they are out, it is essential to understand the tie-breaker policy. This policy comes into the picture when two or more students achieve the same score and is set by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. According to the UCEED tie-breaker policy, candidates with higher scores in Part B will secure a higher rank.

In the case of CEED, only students who qualify for Part B will receive a merit rank. This policy plays a crucial role in determining final rankings for the counselling process. IIT Bombay oversees both the Common Entrance Exam for Design (CEED) and the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED). CEED is for postgraduate programs, while UCEED is for undergraduate ones. Both exams consist of two parts: A and B, each with its own marks distribution. Importantly, marks from both parts contribute to the final merit list. For a detailed understanding of the CEED & UCEED tie-breaker policy 2024, check out the full article.

UCEED Tie-Breaker Policy

The UCEED tie-breaker policy will be applied if two or more candidates score the same total marks. This policy is used to grant rank to the candidate which will help them seek admission to their dream college. Check out the policy below:

  • The candidate who has scored higher marks in Part B of the entrance will be awarded a higher rank.
  • However, if the first criterion does not help break the tie, a higher rank will be given to a candidate with more marks in section 2 of Part A.
  • Even if both the above criteria do not constitute breaking the tie, then the candidate with a higher score in section 1 of Part A will be assigned a higher rank.
  • Lastly, if the tie continues, then candidates will be awarded the same rank.
Candidates who have qualified for the entrance exam will be shortlisted and assigned ranks. The rank will be awarded based on the total marks scored in Part A and Part B of the UCEED exam.

CEED Tie-Breaker Policy

Candidates will be granted merit rank based on their performance in Part A of the entrance. However, if they fail to do so, they will not have any rank. So, only candidates who qualify for Part B will make it to the merit list.

However, in case candidates secure the same total marks, the tie-breaker policy will be applied. The rank of the candidates will include both Part A & B marks. Candidates shortlisted in the final drawing test will be allocated seats via the CEED counselling round. If seats are left after final counselling, students from the wait list will be given admission.

FAQs

How will the CEED & UCEED tie-breaker policy affect my rank in 2024?

The CEED & CEED tie-breaker policy will only come into play if your total score matches exactly with another candidate's score.
- If your score is higher in the tie-breaker sections (Part B, Section 2 or Section 1 of Part A) compared to someone with the same total score, you stand a chance to secure a better rank.
- However, if your score falls behind in the tie-breaker sections, you might end up with a slightly lower rank compared to someone with the same total score. This might not heavily impact your chances unless the competition is exceedingly tough.
- If your total score doesn't match anyone else's, the tie-breaker policy will not affect your rank at all.

How important is the tie-breaker policy for securing a seat in a design college?

The tie-breaker in UCEED & CEED is important when scores are neck and neck. It comes into play only when candidates have identical scores, playing a significant role in determining their ranks. This ranking, in turn, impacts seat availability, especially in highly competitive scenarios.

Does the CEED & UCEED tie-breaker policy consider the number of attempted questions?

No, the tie-breaker policy for CEED & UCEED does not take into account the number of questions attempted. Instead, it concentrates on the marks obtained in various sections of the examination.

Which section/part of CEED & UCEED is considered first for breaking a tie?

In the CEED & UCEED 2024 exams, the Drawing Test (Part B) takes priority in resolving tied total marks. If the scores in Part B are equal, the examination authorities will then consider Section 2 of Part A, followed by Section 1 of Part A.

What happens if two candidates have the same total marks in CEED/UCEED 2024?

In case two candidates participating in CEED/UCEED 2024 secure the same total score, a tie-breaker policy comes into play to determine their ranking:

- Part B Marks: The candidate who scores higher in Part B (Drawing Test) is given the superior rank.
- Section 2 of Part A: If the scores in Part B are equal, the candidate with higher marks in Section 2 of Part A is ranked higher.
- Section 1 of Part A: Lastly, if both the Part B and Section 2 scores are identical, the candidate with higher marks in Section 1 of Part A secures the better rank.
- Same Rank: Should all sections yield identical scores, both candidates are awarded the same rank.

How is the UCEED tiebreaker decided?

The UCEED tiebreaker is decided by the highest score of the candidate in Part B. If this doesn’t break the tie, then the highest score in Section 2 of Part A is considered. After even this, if the score remains the same, the Section 1 of Part A marks become the deciding score. However, if the tie remains, both candidates will be given the same merit rank.

What happens after qualifying CEED exam?

Students who qualify for the CEED exam become eligible to apply and take admission across different design courses at IIT and other institutes. However, a valid CEED score is not the confirmation of admission to the candidate's desired institute.

Can I get into IIT with UCEED?

Yes, candidates can get into undergraduate B.Des courses available at different IIT campuses such as Delhi, Bombay, and Guwahati through UCEED scores. Apart from IIT candidates can also take admission in other institutes via the scores of this entrance.

How is the CEED tiebreaker decided?

The CEED tiebreaker is effective when two candidates get the same marks. In this entrance exam, candidates who qualify for Part A will be awarded merit rank and the ones qualifying the Part B will be listed in the final merit list.

Who decides the CEED and UCEED tiebreaker policy?

The CEED and UCEED tiebreaker policy is decided by the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay to break the tie of marks between two candidates. Candidates must understand the tie-breaker policy to determine their merit rank.
