How to Choose CAT Exam Centres

While choosing CAT exam centres, candidates must keep their convenience in mind. If you are located in Delhi, make sure to choose an exam centre that is close to your area. If there is no exam centre available in your area, then choose the one which is most accessible to you. Now, let's have a look at how to choose CAT exam centres.

  • The first step is to register yourself on the official website (iimcat.ac.in).

  • After the successful registration, proceed to with the CAT registration 2024.

  • In the Test Ciy Preference section, choose 6 cities at your convenience from the list.

Can CAT Exam Centres Preferences be Changed?

Yes, a candidate can make changes to his CAT test city preferences during the application form correction process. When the form correction window is available, candidates can edit their CAT exam centre preference by logging into the official website using their CAT credentials. It must be noted that the final CAT exam centre will be allotted based on the preference filled and the number of candidates who have registered for the exam.

Exam Day Guidelines to Follow at the CAT Exam Centre

No matter what level of preparation you have done for CAT, if you’re not aware of the CAT exam day instructions, there are chances of ruining the day. For easy entry to the exam hall, candidates must take a look at the following exam day guidelines that need to be followed at the CAT exam centres:

  • Candidates should arrive at the CAT exam centres at the reporting time mentioned on the admit card. If not possible, reach at least 30 minutes before the gate closes as no entry to the exam hall will be allowed after that

  • Check the reporting time once more the day before the CAT exam. Reporting time for the Morning session is 7:00 am, for the Afternoon session is 11:00 am, and for the Evening session is 3:00 pm.

  • Make sure you have a hard copy of your CAT admit card and an original ID proof before going to the exam locations.

  • Also, have a digital copy of the admit card on your phone to locate the exam centre through the Google Maps link mentioned on it.

  • The CAT Application Number mentioned on the admit card serves as the candidate's primary reference identity. In case the candidate forgets to carry the admit card, he will not be granted entry to the exam hall.

  • To find the Exam Lab/Console in the CAT exam centres, use the application number displayed on the CAT admit card.

  • Attach a photograph to the space allotted on their CAT admit card.

  • Don’t carry any prohibited objects or documents to the exam hall as it may lead you to trouble. In case you are carrying any prohibited or exceptional items, you must carry an authorization form provided by IIMs.

  • Avoid carrying handbags or luggage as the CAT exam centres have no arrangements for the same.

  • PwD candidates must carry the Scribe Affidavit and other necessary medical certificates. Students with a pacemaker or any kind of metal implant in their body are required to carry a medical certificate of the same.

  • Candidates whose name has been changed due to marriage, divorce, or any other legal reason must carry name change degree documents.

  • Download your CAT admit card and click on the Google Maps link. 

  • You will be taken to the Google Maps page for the CAT exam centre.

  • Click on the ‘Directions’ option.

  • Choose your starting point and select your mode of transportation

  • The directions to the exam centre will be displayed on the screen that you can follow to access it.

  • Candidates can also find the contact number of the CAT exam centre through the link and use it for any location-related queries.

  • If you are using Google Maps via laptop, you can use the "Send directions to your phone" option to get directions on your phone.

Do’s and Dont’s at the CAT Exam Centres

It is strongly recommended in the CAT Exam Day Guide by IIM Lucknow to strictly adhere to the dos and don'ts on exam day. It is imperative that you adhere to the guidelines regarding the items you should bring for the CAT exam in order to avoid encountering any unwanted circumstances either prior to or during the CAT exam.

Do’s 

  • In order to avoid missing anything, candidates appearing for the CAT exam need to be aware of the CAT exam timings. It is suggested that candidates reach the CAT exam centres at least half an hour before the exam commences.
  • Keep a hard copy of your CAT admit card with you. Candidates will not be permitted to enter the CAT exam centre at any cost if they do not have a hard copy of their CAT hall ticket. Candidates must carry at least one photo ID as proof in addition to their CAT admit card. 
  • The first task for candidates upon arriving at the CAT exam center is to locate their designated seats. Candidates will receive information about the hall/lab number at the same time.
  • One of the most crucial exam day tips for the CAT is for candidates to have their documents verified as soon as they enter the examination centre. It is necessary for candidates to sign the attendance sheet and paste passport-size photographs on it.
  • Candidates will be given five rough sheets to carry out the calculation work on when they arrive at the exam centre. It is strictly prohibited for candidates to leave before the total duration of two hours have elapsed. Use only the sheets that the invigilator has provided for your rough work. Write your registration ID and name on the rough sheets.

Dont’s

  • Candidates are not allowed to wear jewellery, digital watches, jackets, or other electronic devices. Additionally, candidates are not permitted to bring bags, wallets, or cell phones to the CAT examination location.
  • Avoid applying Mehndi (henna) on the palm side.
  • On the day of the CAT exam, do not request to switch to the exam lab, console, or exam centre.
  • If it is not a medical emergency, do not ask for a bio-break while in the exam lab. During the two hours of the CAT exam, there are no bio breaks permitted.
  • During the exam, don't bother other candidates, try to cheat, or copy answers from someone else.
  • Writing pads are only provided to candidates once during the exam, so don't waste them.
