CAT 2020 Analysis by Bulls Eye

CAT 2020 Slot 1 has been conducted from 8:30 am to 10;30 am and two more slots on 29 Nov 2020 are left. The CAT 2020 Slot 1 Analysis from Bulls Eye is now available here. The number of questions was reduced to 76 in CAT 2020 from 100 in CAT 2019. Bulls Eye reports that 17 out of 76 questions were of TITA questions while 59 were MCQs.

Bulls Eye will release the section-wise analysis and overall analysis of CAT 2020 for Slot 2 and Slot 3 as well. CAT 2020 Analysis by Bulls Eye 

Due to the change in the exam pattern of CAT 2020, candidates can expect a change in the number of questions asked in CAT. However, the difficulty level of the exam is expected to be moderately challenging. Besides this, the QA section is expected to be difficult than the rest of the sections. The overall difficulty level of CAT 2020 Slot 1 was between moderate and difficult. Quant was comparatively easier than the rest of the sections. The total number of questions asked in the exam was 76.

CAT 2020 Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension Analysis (Slot 1)

As per Bulls Eye, there were 26 questions in total in the VARC section this year. A total of four passages were there in the section. Two section had 4 questions each and 2 passages had 5 questions. The break-up of other questions was Para jumbles - 3, Summary – 4 and odd one out 1.  There were 4 TITA questions while there were no TITA questions in RC.

CAT 2020 Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning Analysis (Slot 1)

IMS reports that the DILR section was the most difficult this year. The surprise elements this year was there were only 5 sets and 24 questions in this section. There were 2 sets having 6 questions each and 3 sets with 3 questions each. All of the sets were time-consuming but DI was the toughest part in this section. Major topics reported from this section was a set based on Venn Diagrams and a Data Reasoning set with tables.

CAT 2020 Quantitative Ability Analysis (Slot 1)

The section was easier than the rest of two sections. TSD, Geometry, Algebra covered the major percentage of the questions in this section. More than 90% of the questions in this section were easily doable. An attempt of 15-19 with 100% accuracy will fetch 99 percentile marks. 

CAT 2020 Slot 2 Paper Analysis

CAT 2020 Slot 2 was conducted from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm on November 29 and the overall difficulty level was Moderate to Difficult. DILR proved to be the most difficult section and QA was reported to be the easiest to attempt. Candidates also had difficulty going through the VARC section this year. CAT 2020 Sectional Analysis Slot 2

Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension - VARC section was a bit more difficult than section one but was based on a similar pattern of 18 RC questions and 8 VA questions. The section had 4 passages with 2 passages having 5 questions and 2 passages with 4 questions each. In the VA part, there were 3 Parajumbles, 3 Summary and 2 Odd One Out Questions. The section had 5 TITA questions in total, all in the VA section. Following is the topic of RC passages

  • Aggression
  • Renewable Energy
  • Culture

An attempt of 16-19 questions is good for a 99 percentile score in this section.

Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning - The DILR section was the most difficult in Slot 2 of CAT 2020. It had 5 sets with 2 having 6 questions each and 3 having 4 questions each. The 2 sets of 6 questions proved to be quite difficult but the 4 question sets were Moderate and doable. Following is the topics of the sets in DILR:

  • Parking Slots
  • Scheduling
  • Voting
  • Arranging Balls

An attempt of 12=15 is required for a 99 percentile score.

Quantitative Aptitude - The QA section of CAT 2020 Slot 2 was the easier of the three but it still was Moderate in difficulty. The section was dominated by topics such as Percentage, Profit & Loss, Ratio etc. with 12 questions. 7 questions were from Algebra based on topics such as Quadratic and Linear Equations, Inequalities, AP-GP etc. 4 questions were from Geometry and Mensuration and 3 from Modern maths.

For a 99 percentile score, an attempt of 14-17 is required with high accuracy.

CAT 2020 Slot 3 Paper Analysis

Slot 3 of CAT 2020 was conducted from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm and followed a similar pattern as the last slot except that VARC and QA sections had a higher difficulty level.

CAT 2020 Sectional Analysis Slot 3

Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension - The VARC section in Slot 3 had similar difficulty level as in Slot 1 and it was Moderate to Difficult to attempt. The section had the same question pattern as the previous 2 slots with 2 RC passages having 5 questions each and 2 with 4 questions each. There were a few inference based questions in the RC. Out of the remaining 8 questions, 3 were Parajumbles, 3 were Summary and 2 were Odd One Out. All 3 of the Parajumbles and 1 Odd One Out question were TITA type. Following is the topic of RC questions:

  • Human Contact
  • Although, the most contested concept in political philosophy
  • Economic crisis
  • Travel experience

Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning - The DILR section was reported to be the most difficult section consistently across all 3 slots. There were 5 sets in this slot as well with 2 sets having 6 questions each and 3 sets having 4 questions each. The topics of the sets included COVID-19 patient case, scheduling, venn diagram, games and tournaments etc.

Quantitative Aptitude - The Quant section was of Moderate difficulty level. Questions asked in this section were as follows:

  • Algebra - 5
  • Geometry - 4
  • Time and Work - 2
  • Alligation - 2
  • Time Speed Distance - 3
  • Logarithms - 3
  • Averages - 1
  • Others - 2

The most dominating topics in this section was Commercial Maths and ratio based topics. The section was reported to be quite doable but the questions were time consuming.
