Every institute has a particular set of conditions of eligibility which the candidates are required to qualify in order to be selected for the course. Students must check the eligibility criteria before proceeding with the application process as their forms will be cancelled if they fail to meet all the prerequisites. The general eligibility conditions of pursuing diploma courses after class 10th have been listed below. Candidates need to check if the institute they have targetted for admission has any separate conditions as well.

  • The student must have completed class 10th from a school that comes under a recognised board of education.
  • Students who are appearing in their class 10th board exams can also apply for admission.
  • The aggregate score of the candidate in class 10th board exams must be at least 50%. Some relaxation in aggregate marks is provided at most of the colleges to the students belonging to reserved categories.

Selection Process for Diploma Courses After 10th

The selection process of diploma courses varies from college to college. The most popular methods of selecting applicants for diploma courses after class 10th have been mentioned below.

  • Usually, the students are selected on the basis of their marks in the qualifying examination, i.e. their class 10th board marks.
  • The method of first come first serve is also followed by some institutes to fill their seats. In this case, candidates have to be quick with their application process because the sooner they apply, the greater are their chances of getting selected.
  • Some institutions conduct their own entrance exams for assessing the knowledge of applicants. Students have to appear for the exam and are selected as per the marks they score in these entrance tests.
  • At certain colleges, the applicants have to appear for a round of personal interview in order to be selected for the programme. The selection authorities judge the capabilities, knowledge, and skills of the applicant through an interview and then decide whether or not he will get admission to the programme.

Except for Diploma in engineering courses, states usually do not conduct an entrance test for the admission to courses mentioned above. The admission will be based on Class 10 score/ percentage. These courses are also a gateway for higher studies.
