MBBS is one of the most opted medical courses in the country after Class 12. Every year, lakhs of students apply for MBBS admissions in India. Before 2019, there used to be a number of university-level, state-level and national-level entrance exams for the MBBS course. But now, all the MBBS colleges in India provide admissions through the one and only national-level entrance exam - NEET-UG (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Exam).

NTA or National Testing Agency is the official authority responsible for the successful conduction of the exam. NEET applications have already closed and the examination is all set to take place on 12th September 2021. What is MBBS Full Form?

So the MBBS full form is Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery. About MBBS Admission in India 2021

As mentioned before, admission to the MBBS course in India is done through a national-level entrance exam called NEET-UG. Once the NEET result is out, the NTA releases cutoff scores and merit lists. Other than the central admissions through AIQ (All India Quota), different states also conduct MBBS admissions through State Quota. All the colleges participating in NEET offer seats to candidates through the counselling and seat allotment process. Finally, as the seats are filled, the admissions close.

Detailed MBBS Admission Process 2021


  • The MBBS admission process in India begins with NEET registrations. 

  • Once candidates have filled their applications, the NTA provides them with an application form correction window a few days after the registration deadline. 

  • It is necessary for aspirants to complete their registrations before the deadline. 

Entrance Exam/ NEET-UG:

  • After the registrations, the next step in the admission process is taking the exam. 

  • To take the exam, candidates will have to download their NEET Admit Cards from the NTA portal.

  • Without the possession of this document, candidates will not be permitted inside the examination hall. 

Result/ Cutoff/ Merit List:

  • After the examination, the NTA releases the NEET results.

  • The cutoff marks and merit lists are also released along with or soon after the results. 

  • Those who make it to the cutoff/ merit lists are considered eligible for the next step in the admission process.

Counselling/ Seat Allotment:

  • Finally, based on the cutoff scores and merit lists, the counselling of NEET-UG or MBBS admissions begins. 

  • Centralised counselling is conducted for the NEET All India Quota seats. 

  • For states, counselling is conducted for the State Quota seats.  

  • After candidates are allocated seats, they are required to pay the admission fee and get their documents verified for seat confirmation. 

  • Finally, once all seats are filled, the admissions close.

Dear Student,

If you have qualified NEET entrance exam, you can take admission in MBBS at Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences. But in order to take admission you also need to fulfil the following eligibility criteria:-

  • You must be at least 17 years.
  • Age must not be more than 25 years.
  • Must have passed Class 12 or equivalent examination from Chhattisgarh board or any other board recognised by Chhattisgarh government with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English.
  • If you belong to the Unreserved category, you need secure at least 50% in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/ Biotechnology.
