AAO Training and Job Profile Details

As Assistant Audit Officer is an entry level officer post, the designation is considered very popular. Among the all SSC CGL post, the post of AAO has the highest salary. Before getting the designation and posting, the AAO has to undergo various training for a specific period of time. A few of the prescribed rules that the AAO must follow are:

  • In the initial days, the recruiters have to undergo a training of about 2-3 months after which they are posted in different locations across the country
  • Apart from the various responsibilities, assisting the Audit officer or the Senior Audit Officer is considered the primary duty of AAO
  • In the conduction of various departmental audits of Government organizations and Public Sector Companies, AAO has to assist the officers
  • Matters based on a sectional level, the AAO has to make a decision and report the details to the higher authorities
  • AAOs are also responsible for preparing and administering the reports of inspection and presenting them to the director
  • In the matter of reviewing bills, the AAO must review the bills of different employees for TA, LTC, Medical Allowance, RTF or any other benefits 
  • Travel for the purpose of inspection is required for AAO. With regard to both desk job and field job, inspections by AAO is essential
  • To improve the efficiency of the concerned department, working and making required suggestions is required. This will help in improving the efficiency and effectivity of the department.
  • In case there is a transfer order, the Assistant Audit Officer is transferred to Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities

What are the roles and responsibilities of AAO?

Below mentioned are the roles and responsibilities:

FieldAudit: The AAO are mandated to conduct field visits which include visiting Govt. departments, and organizations for monitoring their financial works. They verify the records consisting of expenditure records.

AuditTours: AAOs also have to undergo audit tours for 4 times in a year in which they have to visit different locations or places to gather information.

Performanceaudits: AAOs have to conduct performance audits which include the working of employees and their efficiency of working during Govt. programs and initiatives. During the audit they also check the allocated funds are used correctly

  •   Examining organization and employee bills related to medical, TL, payroll and other expenses.
  • Conducting internal training 
  • Reviews data to develop Draft Audit Paragraph
  • Creating auditing methodologies for different ministries and departments
  • Using auditing software 
  • Identifying potential errors/flaws in financial records & transactions 
  • Recorrecting and submitting records to the department director

The AAO examination is divided into 4 tiers: 

  1. Tier1- Computer-based
  2. Tier2 - Computer-based
  3. Tier3 - Offline examination
  4. Tier4- Interview & document verification 

What is the examination pattern of AAO?

For Tier 1

  • Based on computer
  • Divided in 2 sessions
  • Total no. of questions 100
  • Total Marks 200
  • Total Duration 1 hour

For Tier 2

  •  Total 3 papers (paper 1 is mandatory for all, Paper 2 for candidates applying for the post of Junior Statistical Officer and Paper 3 for candidates who are shortlisting from Paper 1)
  • Paper 1 will be having a negative marking of 1 mark
  • Papers 2 and 3 will be having a negative marking of 0.05 mark
  • divided into 2 sessions

What is the salary of AAO?

All the candidates recruited as AAO comes directly under the Ministry of CAG, The post of AAO is recognized under Group B which is a Gazetted post and earns grade pay INR 4,800. The basic pay AAO is 47,600 INR which means the total salary of AAO comes to be 83,00 to 74,00 INR.
