History of JEE

IIT-JEE was first conducted in 1961. In order to reduce the pressure on the Main examination, an additional screening test was conducted between 2000 and 2005. It allowed only the top 20,000 candidates from 4,50,000 candidates to appear for the exam. An additional exam named AIEEE was introduced in 2022 to help candidates get admission to top engineering institutions except for the IITs. JEE was introduced in 2013 as a replacement for AIEEE and IIT-JEE. JEE now is conducted in two parts: JEE Main (instead of AIEEE) and JEE Advanced (instead of IIT-JEE). Joint Entrance Examination (JEE full form) format was converted to online mode from 2018 onwards.

The NTA was formed in 2018 by The Ministry of Education and the Government of India under the Societies Registration Act of 1860 to conduct various entrance tests such as JEE, NEET, UGC NET, CSIR NET, etc. In addition to conducting the exam, the NTA also works with different test centers across India to help JEE aspirants prepare better for the exam by visiting these centers for mock tests. It helps candidates get acquainted with the CBT test format and practice at the centers to prepare well for the exam day.
