Earlier, DGE Tamil Nadu follwed the system of ranking students. But soon this method was abandoned by the authorities after observing the pressure it created on the students. Consequently, the new grading system was adopted in 2011.

Tamil Nadu Board Grading System 2023 is sketched by the Directorate of Government Examination (DGE), Tamil Nadu. DGE governs all the educational matters concerning with State Board of School Examinations (SBSE) and Board for Higher Secondary Examinations (BSHE), Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu Board is considered to be one of the best State Boards in India. To account for this, earlier the DGE used to follow the ranking system i.e. release the name of the board toppers and provided them the scholarships. But, this system created pressure on many students, and many deserving and needy students felt underprivileged.
The Board soon understood this fact and abolished this system and ultimately addressed a new system. The new system introduced was the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) System which laid stress over the grades and the periodic performance throughout an academic year, rather than the final assessment based on yearly exams. The Board also continued to confer scholarships, this time not only to the Brilliant Students but also to the economically backward students.
So, the Tamil Nadu Board Grading System is a eight-point-scale grading system which assesses the students based on their performance in the Board Examinations. The Grading system is almost same for both State Board of School Examinations (SBSE) Class 10 and Board for Higher Secondary Examinations (BSHE) Class 12 Examination. There are some very slight differences, which arises due to the difference in the maximum marks for practicals for 10th and 12th. Read the article given below to get a detailed view.
