Bihar Board Class 10 Pass Criteria 2026
As per the PDF published by the Bihar School Examination Board, you need to follow the following passing criteria:
- To successfully pass the class 10th exam, it is compulsory to pass in all the subjects except in English & Optional Subjects.
- For Science, you are required to pass the Theory and Internal Assessment Examination altogether, obtaining at least 30 marks out of 100.
- For Social Science, you are required to pass in Theory and Internal Assessment (Literacy Activity & Project Work) altogether, obtaining at least 30 marks out of 100.
- English is a compulsory subject and obligatory for all to appear in this subject. However, the marks obtained in English shall not be included in the aggregate for the purpose of determining the division secured.
- The optional paper is not obligatory or compulsory to appear. Hence, the marks obtained inthe Optional paper shall not be included in the aggregate for the purpose of determining the division secured.
- The division of a student shall be decided on the marks obtained in 5 subjects, e.g., MIL, SIL, Math, Science, and Social Science, with a total of 500 marks.
- You must obtain more than 30 percent of the total marks in each subject and not less than 150 marks in aggregate to pass.
- A candidate failing in one subject only by not more than 8% marks or in two subjects by not more than 4% marks in each shall be given the marks he/she is short of, and the result shall be declared accordingly. This regulation will not be applicable in case of candidates appearing at the improvement & compartmental examination.
- A candidate who has obtained at least 75% marks in aggregate but has failed in one subject only by not more than 10% marks and can not be allowed to pass under any other regulation, will be declared to have passed, and the division shall be determined accordingly.

Bihar Board 10th Grading System 2026

If a candidate is short of the minimum aggregate marks prescribed for 1st or 2nd Division by 5 marks or less, he/she shall be given the minimum marks required to make up the deficiency and shall be placed in a higher division, but the position in that higher division shall be determined based on the original marks secured by him.
Bihar Board 10th Compartment Exam 2026
If you fail to achieve the minimum passing marks, then you are required to take the compartment exams according to the provisions as follows:
- A candidate failing in two of the five subjects of external examination shall be placed in Compartment in those subjects, provided he/she qualifies in all the subjects of Internal Assessment.
- A candidate placed in Compartment may reappear at the Compartmental Examination to be held in July/August and may avail himself/herself of the second chance in March/April next year, and may further avail himself/herself of the third chance at the Compartmental Examination to be held in July/August of that year.
- The candidate will be declared ‘Pass’ provided he/she qualifies the Compartmental subject/subjects in which he/she had failed.
- A candidate who does not appear or fails at one or all the chances of Compartmental shall be treated to have failed in the examination and shall be required to reappear in all the subjects at the subsequent Annual Examination of the Board as per syllabi and courses laid down for the examination concerned to pass the examination.
- The candidate shall have the option to appear at the practical examination in the subjects involving practical or retain their previous marks in one or more subjects at the annual examination after the third chance Compartmental.

Bihar Board 10th Improvement Exam 2026
An improvement exam provision is also provided by the Bihar School Examination Board. You can check out the information related to that below:
- A candidate who has passed an examination of the board may re-appear for Betterment (Improvement) of performance in one or more/all subject(s) as the main examination in the immediate succeeding year only.
- No candidate shall be allowed to appear for the Improvement of performance after a lapse of one year from the main examination under any circumstances.
- If a candidate fails at the Improvement examination or secures marks less than the marks secured by him/her at the main examination, the marks obtained by him/her in the concerned subject(s) at the main examination will remain unaltered, and the result of the main examination shall be deemed valid.
- A candidate who appears for the improvement of performance in one subject or in all subjects will be issued a statement of marks reflecting his/her marks obtained at the Betterment examination in these subject(s) and shall be placed in the division as determined, but not in any merit list.
