CBSE Class 11 Registration 2024: Subject Combinations & Codes
CBSE has directed all its affiliated schools to avoid subject streams for Class 11 unlike previous years. Earlier, students had to select one stream Arts, Home Science, Commerce, Science, while taking admission in Class 11.
Taking the NEP 2020 into account, the CBSE Board, Unlike earlier, has changed its stream allocation pattern this year. Previously, the students had to choose a single stream out of Science, Arts, Commerce or Home Science for their +2 education. But now, as per the official notification, CBSE Board has laid provisions for the student to select the variety of subjects in class 11 rather than selecting a confined stream. This initiative has been lauded by the students as well as by the educational experts as this will help the students to study the subjects of their interest, which inturn, will make their studies convenient. But, there's a limitation too. The students need to select the valid combination of subjects as prescribed by the CBSE Board i.e they cannot select any random subject and form a combination.*
The combination of subjects listed under Group A and Group S can be selected by the students. Group A consists of the elective subjects integrated from the different streams. To give a more clear insight on the limitations, let's take an example, one cannot choose both Mathematics and Applied Math together. In the same way, one cannot select Computer Science and Informatics Practices together. Besides some restrictions, other subjects are open for all students to diversify their syllabus and knowledge.
The above information has been clearly stated on Page No. 18 in the CBSE official curriculum. Please refer to the curriculum for more details.
Subject Combination in CBSE Class 11
To add more information in the section provided above, we will be discussing the CBSE Class 11 Subject choosing practice at stretch. It is important to choose the Subject for the +2 wisely as the subjects which one chooses in class 11, the same subjects would be taken in consideration for the CBSE Class 12 Board exams. Thus, it is really a critical topic to choose a combination of subjects which compliments your own strength.
The stream which one chooses in his/her +2 mainly decides the field in which your career will be based. The entrance examinations for higher studies are also based upon your stream. Let's suppose, you want to become a doctor and you sit for the NEET exam, you will be able to clear it only if you would have studied Biology, Physics & Chemistry in classes 11 and 12. In the same way, students who want to become Chartered Accountant (CA) need to study Commerce with Economics and Accountancy at the +2 level. Apart from these core subjects, the language and the option subjects can also be chosen as per the student's interest.
