Usually, 100 marks are allotted for every academic elective; these marks are divided into theory and practical/internal assessment. For language papers, there are no practical exams. Some main academic electives like physics, chemistry, geography, psychology, etc in each stream consist of practical papers. CBSE Class 12 Practical Syllabus for Psychology 2026

Check the list of practicals to be performed in Psychology from the pointers given below:

  • A. Development of case profile: Using appropriate methods like interview, observation & psychological tests.
  • B. Test administration: Students are required to administer and interpret five psychological tests related to various psychological attributes like intelligence, aptitude, attitude, personality, etc.
  • C. In the Practical examination, the student will be required to administer and interpret two psychological tests.

  • Record of at least 8 Experiments [with 4 from each section], to be performed by the students.
  • Record of at least 6 Activities [with 3 each from section A and section B], to be performed by the students.

4. To find the focal length of a concave lens, using a convex lens.

5. To determine the angle of minimum deviation for a given prism by plotting a graph between the angle of incidence and the angle of deviation.

6. To determine the refractive index of a glass slab using a travelling microscope.

7. To find the refractive index of a liquid using a convex lens and a plane mirror.

8. To find the refractive index of a liquid using a concave mirror and a plane mirror.

9. To draw the I-V characteristic curve for a p-n junction diode in forward and reverse bias.

1. To identify a diode, an LED, a resistor and a capacitor from a mixed collection of such items.

2. Use of a multimeter to see the unidirectional flow of current in case of a diode and an LED, and check whether a given electronic component (e.g., a diode) is in working order.

3. To study the effect of intensity of light (by varying the distance of the source) on an LDR.

4. To observe refraction and lateral deviation of a beam of light incident obliquely on a glass slab.

5. To observe diffraction of light due to a thin slit.

How are Class 12 practical exams conducted by CBSE?

The practical exams will be conducted from January 1, 2026, for all the CBSE-affiliated schools across the nation. Check out the procedure that is followed by CBSE to conduct the class 12 practical exam here:

  • CBSE will appoint external examiners to conduct the practical exams.
  • The schools will appoint internal examiners from their current staff.
  • The practical exams will be conducted in the respective schools. The Laboratories will be made available for the papers.
  • Schools are required to create batches of 30 students each day. The batches will then be split into subgroups of 15 students each. The first subgroup of 15 students may attend the lab work while the other subgroup is doing pen & paper work, and vice versa.
  • The marks of the students will be uploaded online after the completion of the exam.

You are required to follow the rules and regulations as described by CBSE while taking the practical exams. Check out the guidelines here:

What if I missed my CBSE class 12 practical exams?

If you miss your CBSE class 12 practical exams, then your exam will be rescheduled as per the dates released by CBSE; however, if you fail to completely appear for the practical exam, then you will have to register for the compartment papers. 

Do private students give the CBSE class 12th practical exams?

Yes, private students are also liable to appear for the CBSE class 12th practical exams. The practical exams for private candidates will be held from February 15 to March 15, 2026, tentatively at the same examination centers as the theory exams. 

How many practical marks are allotted for CBSE class 12?

For subjects with practical knowledge, the practical paper will be conducted for 30 marks, and 70 marks are provided for the theory paper. It is compulsory to pass both the theory and practical exams separately in CBSE class 12. 

What is the date for CBSE class 12th practicals?

CBSE 12th practicals 2026 will be conducted from 1st January 2026. The practical papers for winter-bound schools will be conducted in November 2025.
