The students should carefully understand all these concepts to be able to write correct answers for all questions.
The students should be familiar with biotechnology, its principles, techniques, and applications. They can focus on understanding genetic engineering, molecular diagnosis and transgenic organisms. With a clear understanding of biotechnology and its applications, students can write effective answers. In the exam, the questions will be asked for different marks. Depending on the marks, students can decide the length of answers and add all the required points.
Q.1 - Can you suggest a method to remove oil (hydrocarbon) from seeds based on your understanding of DNA technology and the chemistry of oil?
Q.2 - Compare and contrast the advantages and disadvantages of the production of genetically modified crops.
Q.3 - Diagrammatically represent the experimental steps in cloning and expressing a human gene (say the gene for growth hormone) into a bacterium like E. coli?
Q.4 - What are Cry proteins? Name an organism that produces it. How has man exploited this protein to his benefit?
Q.5 - What are transgenic bacteria? Illustrate using any one example.
Q.6 - What is gene therapy? Illustrate using the example of adenosine deaminase (ADA) deficiency.
Be prepared to attempt very short, short, and long questions. For the very short questions, students might be given multiple options. They will have to choose the correct one. For short questions, they can write answers in 2 to 3 lines. For long questions, students can write detailed answers.
